Some month ago I posted here a thread about my idea of using Great War Miniatures as Imperial Guards in W40K games

I am been collecting them for some time, and I have made some (minimal) conversions to create the heavy weapons teams… Also I have to made some head swaps to create full army coherency (everybody using service caps and no steel helmets)

These figures will play as the 1st BEF Regiment of the Imperial Guard. BEF states for Britonia Extraplanetary Force. Britonian troops are renowned for their high morale and experience (I will play always using veterans as troops). They earned big respect from all around the empire for their incredible victory against Da Kaizer ork waaagh. They stopped it cool in the battle of Mons V, were they were fighting almost 20 times their numbers but came out with the upper hand, due to their good defensive tactics and their accurate laser rifle fire.

Hope you all like the idea. Please don’t pay much attention to the paint job (I am a terrible painter). I am much more interested in your feedback about the idea, background and conversions

maybe if you were to switch out the bolt action rifles for lasguns?

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House!

I don't think that's possible... great war figures are all metal and there are not separate arm you can use for conversions...

I any case they are no longer bolt action rifles... they are SMLE.... Short Magazine Laser Equipments!!!

historical IG armies are usually a fun way to mix things up, for example your hunter killer missile team is great.

However, the SMLE does not look very much like a "future laser weapon". Maybe you should consider replacing the tip of the rifle with one that looks like a lasgun tip. One easy source of these are the lasguns from Chimeras, since most people do not use them. Replacing your officer/sergeant hands with cadian weapons will help too. Nothing says you can not switch metal weapons as well, it is just harder. Use of a jewelers saw is key.

And your painting is serviceable, but you might want to consider using washes. Even "the dip" might add some depth to your paint jobs.
