Ok, so i checked in the rule book and didn't quite find what i was looking for.. I was playing a game and i disembarked my rhino and had my marines around it, I popped smoke and put some wool around the vehicle to represent the smoke. The smoke covered the marines and it came up whether or not they would get a cover save as they are obscured by the smoke aswell.. and smoke just doesn't stay around in one place..

what do you guys think dakka ?

I'm a latin bro, so my slampiece cooks me quesadillas.

Depends on the placement of the unit around the rhino, the smoke from the rhino will not grant the marines a cover save, but LOS to the marines around the rhino might.

Nope. Your woolly smoke is for decoration only. It has no impact on the game other than to show your vehicle is obscured.

Ridcully is correct: The smoke is only for aesthetic purposes

No. The only way they are getting a coversave is if 50% or more of the models are obscured by the rhino itself or any intervening terrain / units.

Rules for smoke launchers:

"Once per game, after completing its move, a vehicle with smoke launchers cna trigger them (it doesn't matter how far they moved.) Place some cotton wool or other suitable marker on or around the vehicle to show it is obscured. The vehicle may not fire any of its weapons in the smae turn it used its smoke launchers, but will cound as obscured in the next enemy shooting phase, receiving a 4+ cover save."

Sounds pretty clear to me. Vehicle gets cover save, disembarking troops don't.

The eye of terror.

"On or around" is ambiguous enough that if the smoke weren't decorative, then you could theoretically place smoke across the entire table to grant your entire army a 4+ cover save, because that is "around" the tank.

However, as has been pointed out, the smoke is only decorative. I don't even bother with fluffy wool, personally, I just put a dark-blue die on my tank.

Why did the berzerker cross the road?

I had to read this twice, as the first time I honestly read "dark-blue dye" and was . . . impressed -- if somewhat confused.
