I know i have recently submitted a thread about, more or less the same point, Tau and what i should be buying "Right off the bat" as such. For those who haven't read it, i have been asking for some advice on what i should buy now that I've restarted this hobby. A few things you should take into account when reading and then possibly posting your view on the matter a hand, is that i have a small amount of income at around £30 a week as i am a sixth form student.

Right then. Let's say theoretically that i play a couple of games with borrowed Tau miniatures, and then think that it would be a good idea to buy some models. Now i have looked online for prices and I've come to the conclusion that A) Kroot really don't look too Impressive, so i will leave the warriors from Pech alone. B)...Well there isn't really a B to be honest. There is a Tau Battleforce online which comes to around £48, but contains alot of miniatures that i don't want i.e. Kroot. So would it be a wiser choice to buy 2 sets of Fire Warriors and either Commander Shadowsun OR a Crisis Battlesuit Commander for £2.50 less. I edging towards Commander Shadowsun as he looks like he kicks ass and for £2.50 more, who can argue. But i would like to ask you of your opinion. I would obviously be purchasing this after a Codex and if i can't get my hands on a Spare Rulebook out of AoBR then a Hardback Rulebook. All views and opinions are welcome. Thanks alot.

You're going to want to put your Fire Warriors in Devilfish transports. I'd probably go week by week. So this week pick up some Fire Warriors, next week pick up a Devilfish, and keep doing that for a while. Tau are most effective as a mobile army, and mechanized is the name of the game in 5th edition.

I agree with brother SRM for troop choices, but if you want to play quickly you might want to look into what you can give the most upgrades. It might not be a very effective army, but you will be able to play really quickly. Obviously if you don't net that much $ you don't want to be buying tones of none upgraded units. But, when you do buy stuff, give it every upgrade possible, that way you will need way less troops to play, as your army grows in numbers, cut the less useful upgrades out.

Also.. if you think about getting shadowsun.. she requires you to have a 1500pt or higher army to field.

Shadowsun is also super fragile if you mess up her abilties with a toughness of 3 (Stealth generator, +4 invuniable save, drones, etc) and str 6 weapons are all to easy to find these days.

I recommend the XV8 as your leading commander, as a shas'o it has some nice stats and some neat experimental weapons you might want to take with you (Airburst frag projector is awesome fighting hordes)
