My Space marine veteran. Any tips on painting?

It's a little hard to tell because of the overexposure of the photo, but did you do an overall wash on it? That might help a bit, but I like the vibrant scheme.

wash this in devlian mud. make the details stand oout much more. plus might tone down the bright colours.

try picking out the details yourself with mixture of black and highlights.

I would definitely darken the model with a wash. The eyes might also look better in a different colour or shade of yellow.

Give the power axe some energy lines, it just looks like a regular axe at the moment.
Give the robe an orange wash to blend in those colours a bit more, they shouldn't be as highlighted as the armour is as they're made of cloth. Or just paint the robe with a clear matt paint to make it duller.

Repaint the purity seals at his waist to make them look like parchment and put some lines on them to look like writing.

To be honest I think another picture should be taken as it is rather overexposed. But, it doesn't look too bad.

I think if you were to wash it (O. flesh/D. mud) then be sure to put your base coat on again in thin layers, maybe not so bright though and re-highlight it (although not as strongly as you have). I think your brush control need's work as the robe colour has bled onto the armour. The robe is painted well other than the bleeding issue. Washing the halo around the helmet would also define it a bit more.

It is a nice mini although I would take a decent photo first though because the lighting and camera settings maybe playing tricks.

Why is there a ninja on the banner? I'm pretty sure wearing bright red and yellow is contradictory to everything ninjas are about.

Take a picture without flash, and use more natural lighting so we can tell what's actually in the image. I can tell you put effort into the painting, but it's all washed out by the light.

It's always said but I think you need to thin your paints a little and paint say 3 layers of your basecoat - this ensures a smooth finish. Looking at the boats it looks a little thick. With the natural light i can see that the model could do with a wash of a darker colour. If this is for Imperial Fists (One of my favourite SM chapters) then I would suggest a duller/darker basecoat.

What colours do you own? I ask so I can suggest what colours to use. Do you have any washes?

Being totally honest:

I hate the ninja. If you wanted a ninja theme Black, Dark Blue, Dark Puple, Dark Green etc.. would have been the way to go. ATM he looks like an IF or a take one the Howling Griffons (even though he isn't quartered). This is just my take so do whatever you want on your models.

While the Axe looks actually pretty good, the models is way to bright and the paint lines on the yellow are obvious.

I think darker colors followed by a highlight would go a LONG way.

I also agree with Slappy, layers really improve how the models turns out.

Overall, your model looks very nice for a first model.

Also, you might want to check out Tamiya and their spray paints, I used one of their "Lime Green" spray paints for my Sons of Medusa and they turned out great! White Primer --> Coat or two of the Lime Green then color in the joints, details, and paint the head white and the model was done in about an hour in all. (This was a terminator).

This way makes the model look not as nice as a fully handpainted one but saves a TON of time.

- give the armor an ogryn flesh wash
-same with the tabard
-clean up the base and put some moddeling sand on it(plus you gotta paint the sand )
other than that, it's pretty good

Well to fit in with the rest of the squad i have assigned him to he needed more cloak so i started adding some.
