So, I was playing a game last week. I had a squad of destroyers wiped out by shooting. They made their wbb rolls. They joined the unit with in 6" as per the wbb rules. What happened to that Kill point?

The original unit is gone, so would count as a Kill Point, in my opinion.
The rules are a little vague on how WBB interacts with Kill Points.

It is in the Necron Codex. You go by how many models the unit has at the end of the game.
It gives an example, but I will try to explain it.
You have two units of Necron Warriors with ten models each. Unit one takes 8 casualties, but 2 gets their wbb roll. So it only has 4 models. The other unit is wiped out, but only 3 get their wbb roll and becomes part of the first unit (however that would work I am trying to point out that the first squad gains another few models.) So the first unit now has 7 models, and the second unit is gone.
The opponent only gets one kill point even though it dropped the first squad down past half. At then end, it still had 7 models.
So, theoretically, you could have each model of 10 squads with ten models reduced to 1 model, have every one of the warriors succeed their wbb roll, (thus restoring the squads back to full strength) and your opponent wouldn’t get a single kill point. Even though he killed 90% of your force!
So yes, the unit (or squad) that was wiped out would give your opponent a kill point since it no longer exists. The other unit (or squad) just gained more models. Though it will be harder to get a kill point from them.

Why make any reference to under half strength? That no longer matters in this edition...
Anyway, I think you'd be right, count the difference between the current number of squads and the number you had to start to determine KP's.

It matters for victory points. Not that those matter that often. They also use the squads initial models for the count, so it doesn't matter.

I guess that makes sense, I don't do tournies so I mostly play KP these days.

Yeah, it matters for victory points. So, in my example, even though the unit was reduced to 2, it ended the game at 7, so no victory points either. Also, there is a similar example in the Necron Codex.
But it states in the Codex that you go by what the unit ends with. For example, you could have a 12 model unit that has 24 deaths over the course of the game, but keeps surviving though wbb rolls. But all of that wouldn't matter as far as kill points go. The only thing that would matter is whether or not the unit is on the board at the end of the game. If it is, no kill point. If it isn't, one kill point.
This is completly different then the "With Out Number" rule, in which you do get a kill point.

You would get a KP for that unit of destroyers, but you would have a lot of 'extra' destroyers to kill to get the KP for the second unit.

That is a very succinct and correct explanation
