Hello all!

I had the pleasure of fighting in a very entertaining 1850pt Tournament this past weekend. I have several 40K armies completed, and decided to bring the Bugs out of retirement for one last hurrah before the new dex!

There was a surprising mix of armies at the tourney, we had

Space Marines: Imperial Fist, infantry, and Lysander Terminator spam.
Space Marines: Scout Spam, Shrike + Marneus Calgar.
Imperial Guard: Mech. + Leman Russ’
Imperial Guard: Mech. + Leman Russ’
Imperial Guard: Mech. Vets.
Necrons: Nightbringer.
Necrons: Skimmer Horde.
Tyranids: Nidzilla (me!)
Tyranids: Nidzilla

My List was as follows. Most of the compulsory biomorphs are on these bugs, so I am not going to go into detail on them, just their armament etc.

Hive Tyrant /w Dakka. Shadow in the warp. 2 Tyrant Guard.
Hive Tyrant /w Wings. Warpfield. 2x scything talons.
DakkaFex.
DakkaFex.
10 Genestealers. Scuttle Feeder tendrils. Flesh hooks.
10 Genestealers. Scuttle, Feeder tendrils, Flesh hooks.
10 Spineguants. /w W/O #
10 Devourgaunts /w W/O #
3 Zoanthroapes /w Psychic Scream. Warp Blast.
Heavy Fex /w Barbed Strangler + Dakka. Spinebank.
Heavy Fex /w Barbed Strangler + Dakka. Spinebank.

The first opponent of the day was the Scout Spam army. This is what I remember of the list

Marneus Calgar
Shrike
Ironclad Dread in Drop Pod
Ironclad Dread in Drop Pod
Ironclad Dread in Drop Pod
Scouts /w Telion. Sniper rifles. Heavy Bolter. (Combat squad split)
Scouts. (Combat squad split) sarge /w powerfist.
Scouts. (Combat squad split) sarge /w powerfist.
Tactical Squad /w Powerfist Sgt. Melta gun, Multi Melta.
Thunderfire Cannon.

ROUND 1 vs. Space Marines.

Deployment was Spearhead. 4 Objectives, one in each quarter.

So, I was rather surprised by the sneaky trick pulled by my opponent. Using shrike, he infiltrated both himself and Marneus Calgar attached to the Tactical Squad to my right flank. He then backed them up with 3 scout combat squads. My deployment was heavies in front, elites on the flank; tyrants just behind with the gaunts…. Stealers were outflanking. Special conditions: ELITES may capture and hold objectives.

Turn 1. Space Marines.

Space Marines went first. He moved his flankers closer to my lines. Shrike and two scout squads approached my Flyer Tyrant. Two ironclad Dread’s slammed down behind my lines to support the single scout combat squad lurking there. Snipers and Thunderfire ineffectually shot at Fex’s and Zoanthroape.’s to the north. Bolters and Multimeltas obliterated one Zoanthroape on the flank.

Shrike and the scouts attempt to charge the Flying Tyrant, and I pulled out the psychic scream + Horror test on him, which caught him unawares. Both scouts’ squads quailed at charging the beast, so shrike charged in alone. The Beast then proceeded to whiff all but on of its attacks, and shrike put a wound on her. . I then took a wound from no retreat. 

Turn 1. Tyranids.

Dakka Tyrant, one heavy Fex and one Dakka Fex turned around to deal with the ironclads. The spinegaunts headed for the northern objective and the davourgaunts headed to mow down the incoming scouts. They were joined by the other heavy fex and dakka fex. The zoanthroapes maneuvered into better firing positions. The Devourgaunts and Dakkafex lit up both incoming scout squads, and the psychic Scream helped them both flee. The heavy fex put two wounds on Marneus Calgar amazingly from shooting. The Zoanthroapes forgot how to aim, and both missed the Ironclads they were aiming at. The heavy fex destroyed a drop pod.

Once again, the Hive Tyrant whiffed on shrike, but managed to land a wound on him. Thanks to implant attack, that became two…my opponent then informed me he had 3 wounds, and I was left dissapointed as he wounded me back! The Dakka Fex and gaunts both charged their former targets, and destroyed them in CC.

Turn 2 Marines.

Marneus Calgar strode foreward to attempt to deal with the Heavy Fex. The Tac Marines stood their ground, with the support of the remaining scout squad. The final Ironclad did not show up. The ironclads already on the board backed up to stay out of charge range of the big gribllies.

The snipers put one wound on the heavy fex faced marneus, plus marneus put another wound on it with his disgusting AP2 storm bolter. Ugh lol.

The tac squad killed some of the devourgaunts.

Shrike finally perished to the Flying Tyrant. Two turns over due IMO! It consolidated towards the ironclads in my rear lines.

Marneus charged the Heavy Fex, who proceeded to wound him, but thanks to eternal warrior, he shrugged it off (damn you 4 wound marines!) and squashed the bug…he then consolodated towards the dakka fex.

Turn 2. Tyranids.

Both Genestealer outflankers showed up, and came in on the flank I wanted…they moved in to charge the scouts and tactical marines on my right flank.

The Flying Tyrant moved to intercept on of the Ironclads, and the Dakka Tyrant and heavy fex moved in to try for assaults.

In a spray of writhing worms, Marneus Calgar died a heroes death to the Dakka fex, who hosed him down.
The Devourgaunts killed one Tac Marine from shooting. Once again, the Zoanthroapes missed. Sigh….

The genestealers charged into the scout and Tac squads respectively, and succeeded in annhiliating them both…they consolidated to spread out from incoming thunderfire next turn.

Turn 3 Marines.

No Ironclad Drop yet.

Through some disgusting rolling, the thunderfire cannon obliterates one unit of Genestealers. Something like 13 wounds….he got all four hits. OUCH!

One Ironclad dread charges my flying Tyrant. Smirking, I prepare to pull it apart. I mean, come on…5 attacks…str6 with monstrous creature? 3’s to hit? What could go wrong? Well, I should have remembered his previous performance, as he missed with all but one attacks, and that one failed to pen….the ironclad then pulled its wings off like a fly, and left it twitching on the floor. It consolidated back to its lines, high fiveing its fellow dread….the dakka tyrant shook its head in chagrin.

Turn 3 Tyranids.

The Dakka Tyrant assaults the bunker the rear scouts had snuck into. The heavy Fex moves into a position to shoot/assault the Ironclads. The genestealer, dakka fex and dakka gaunts move into cover from the thunderfire cannon, around the southeastern objective.

A Zoanthroape finally hit, and popped the northernmost Ironclad. It was wrecked. The Hive tyrant shook the bunker, but failed to penetrate it.

Turn 4 Marines

With a firey Shrieking contrial, the last Ironclad Drop Pod slammed into the ground on the SE objective. The Ironclad stomped out, facing the genestealers, and lit its heavy flamer.

The sniper scouts moved out of his original deployment castle, and headed towards the SE objective.

With a bark, the thunderfire cannon opened up on the spinegaunts crouched around the objective. He used the no cover round, so they were annhilitaed in another disgusting round of ¾ hits on the scatter dice! Luckily, they would be returning next round!

The ironclad remaining on the rear lines shot at the Dakka Tyrant, and wounded a guard. The scouts remained safe in the bunker. The newly arrived ironclad burned the remaining genestealers up with its heavy flamer.

Turn 4 Tyranids.

Luckily, the spinegaunts sprinted onto the board for reinforcements. They headed for the SW objective, whilst the Dakka Fex that had been guarding it headed for the one they had just vacated. The Dakka Tyrant moved to assault the remaining Ironclad, and the dakkagaunts charged the ironclad on the SE obj. in an attempt to hold it up for the Dakka fex to assault.

Predictably, the dakkagaunt lost 3, but did not flee amazingly. Good!

The Hive Tyrant fighting the Ironclad pulled off both of its arms, but failed to kill it.

Turn 5 Marines.

Not much to do here, however the thunderfire once AGAIN obliterated the spinegaunts, so they would have to show up again to try and hold the objective. The scouts in the bunker moved out to try and claim the SE Objective. The SE Ironclad killed the last of the Gaunts, allowing them to return as well. The SW Ironclad died to the Dakka Tyrant finally.

Turn 5 Tyranids.

The Dakka Fex charged the Ironclad, and the gaunts once again return to the field…they ignored the scouts heading for the objective, and fleeted into range. The Dakka fex continured its lumbering advance onto the NW Objective.

Dakka Tyrant did not want any last minute scout shenanigans and hosed them down. They died to a man from his wormy gun.

Dakka Fex destroyed the Ironclad, and unfortunately only rolled 1” for his massacre….NOOOO! that put me one inch out of the objective.

We rolled for another turn! Hooray it will continue!

Turn 6 Marines.

The sniper scouts charged the Dakka Fex, stopping it from claiming the objective. There was a smaller remaining scout unit that snuck in behind them to claim it for the marine team.

The Dakka Fex killed one, and the scouts held.

Turn 6 Tyranids

Due to time constraints, this was the last turn. I moved the dakka fex into the NW objective. The only combat that mattered ended in a draw, and we ended up in a tie for objectives.

END RESULT : 12/11 draw in my favour.

A very interesting game. I thought my opponent was doomed when I saw him infiltrate so close, and honestly, despite some astute tactical maneuvers, the thunderfire cannon was the only thing that stopped me tabling him. With reduced units, I had to force myself to concentrate on the objectives rather than wiping him off the map.

Great opponent, interesting force

The most unusual thing happened this round hoever….every single game except one was a draw! So, since I was at 12, I went to fight the winner for the lead!

More soon!

ROUND 2

After a brief break, we were back to the tables once more. I found myself facing the only person to actually win in the first round, a very friendly chap with a nice Imperial Fist force. I have played this army in the past, and I know how nasty his Lysander/Terminator unit can be. I didn’t intend for that to ever reach me!

His forces were approxiamtely as follows :

Lysander
10 Terminators. 2 cyclone missle launchers.
10 Man Tactical Squad /w Heavy Bolter.
10 Man Tactical Squad /w Heavy Bolter. Plasma. Sgt. Powerfist.(combat Squads) Razorback /w Heavy Bolter
10 Man Tactical Squad /w Heavy Bolter. Plasma. Sgt. Powerfist.(combat Squads) Razorback /w Heavy Bolter
Landraider CRUSADER
Landraider

Deployment was once again Spearhead. The mission was objective based, with a random objective placement from the center upon being with 6” of the center of the board.

I deployed first, basically in a similar manner…big boys in front, Elites on the flanks, Tyrants in the middle, little dudes behind, and the Stealers were once again outflanking.

TURN 1 Tyranids.

I did not intend to be on the receiving end of 10 terminators, so immediately I moved to head them off. All Fex’s and the Dakka Tyrant advanced to get in range of them . (foolish human for setting up on the line!) The Flyer Tyrant moved into a ruin on the northern edge of the board, and proceeded to wound itself in a dangerous terrain test….hmmm someone is going to be recycled as a ripper if their performance doesn’t improve! The Zoanthroapes moved to try and get range on the landraiders for their big Shots.

I unloaded every gun that had range at the terminators and managed to down 4 of them. Even more hilariously, thanks to Psychic Scream, they ran for it upon taking a morale check! Heading a healthy 7” back and blocking the landraiders from moving…most fortuitious! I also Decimated one of his combat squads with two Zoanthroape shots to one lonely marine.

TURN 1 Marines.

The terminators rallied thanks to be being space Marines, and consolidated. The crusader moved to open up on the Flying Tyrant, and the Razor Backs moved closer to the SE Flank. The lone space Marine from the Combat squad moved to activate the objective in the center. There was no other movement.

The Terminators shot at the Hive Tyrant, who shrugged off their shots. One Zoanthroape was wounded by heavy bolter fire. The Flying Tyrant managed to emerge unscathed from two Landraiders and a bunch of Heavy Bolters thanks to some lucky armor/cover saves.

TURN 2 Tyranids.

The Flying Hive Tyrant, once again proving its idiocy, took another wound as it left the difficult terrain to land next to the Crusdaer. The Carnifex/Tyrant gang in the middle reached the objective, which proceeded to scatter into 3 parts, evenly distributed between our respective sides (one each, and one in the middle! Bizarre!) one unit of Genestealers arrived, but on the wrong flank, so they resigned themselves to doing nothing for the remainder of the game!

Shooting saw 3 more Terminators die to the Dakkafex’s. A Zoanthroape destroyed the Crusader, spilling the marines into the dirt. 3 did not get back up!

The Flying Tyrant charged the remaining marines, killing them all. It consolidated into the wreackage.

TURN 2 Marines.

The Terminators began their advance once more, heading towards the Hive Tyrant. The Land Raider still alive pivoted to face the Flying Tyrant.

Shooting saw one Tyrant Guard killed and a wound put on the tyrant. The Landraider vaporized the Flying Hive tyrant in revenge of its fallen comrades. The lone Marines from the combat squad charged a Zoanthroape! They tickled each other for no wounds.

TURN 3 Tyranids.

The second Genestealer unit arrived, this time on the proper flank…coming in from behind the marines lines.

Shooting killed off one more of the remaining Terminators and put two wounds on Lysander.

Combat between the single Marine and the Zoanthroape ended once more in a draw.

TURN 3 Marines.

The Two Razorbacks roared to life, one turning to deal with the incoming genestealers, the other to try and bring down the heavy Fex. Lysander and his remaining two Terminators moved to charge the Hive Tyrant. The Lanraider pivoted to attempt to shoot as well, hoping to weaken it.

Unfortunately, shooting went awry for the Marine player. The rapid fire and plasma from the combat squad vs the Stealers went limp and only killed three…the Heavy fex shrugged off any wounds from the other combat squad. The Landraider blew the wounded Guard away, but failed to wound with the lascannons! Lysander and co charged the Tyrant. The Tyrant killed one of the terminators, and was wounded by Lysander in return.

TURN 4 Tyranids.

With a hiss of Glee, the Genestealers moved to engage the combat squad. The Dakka Fex and gaunts moved to charge the terminators and lone marines respectively. The Heavy Fex charged his combat squad.

The Land Raider was obliterated by a full power Zoanthroape blast.

The Heavy Fex crushed his unit of Marines, and consolidated towards the Razor Backs. The Genestealers also destroyed their target, and consolidated into some ruins to hide from the remaining marines. The Hive Tyrant, stiking at the same time as Lysander, killed his target, but not before Lysander crushed its skull in a valiant deathblow! Uh ho! No Synapse! That’s a first for me! The Gaunts finally pulled the lone marine down that was harassing the Zoanthroape.

TURN 4 Marines.

Things looked Grim for the Space Marine player, who only had a lonely combat squad and two razorbacks remaining. The Combat squad in question was perched on an oil Tanker high above the battlefield. Both they and the razorbacks turned to gun down the Genestealers approaching them, yet they were only able to kill two more.

TURN 5 Tyranids.

One gaunt unit, lacking direction, decided to Lurk in the ruins in the center, however the spinegaunts kept enough wits to remain on their objective.

The Carnifex’s turned and destroyed both Razorbacks with a combination of shooting and charges. The genestealers, much to my opponents horror, scuttled right up the side of the sheer oil tanker to assault his marines, Killing them all. Flesh Hooks ftw.

With that, I had tabled my opponent and held two objectives. Giving me the win and two more battle points! 17/5 for me! On to the winners table and facing a tyranids worst nightmare. MECH GUARDS! NOOOO!

I like your reports, but they would be better if you included some pictures, for example of the deployment and terrain.

I think your list is illegal because genestealers can only have either feeder tendrils or flesh hooks (or acid maw)
