G'day all I have a Model Master (aztec) inside mix airbrush and when I try to run GW paints though it, it just jams up the gun. I'm thinning the paint with distilled water. any suggestions on what I should use to thin it down or better yet has anyone else had my situation and solved the problem?

How much are you thinning the paint? Do you prefilter the paint to remove chunks?

GW paint has good color, but might not be ideal for this work.

I use airbrush thinner for my paints and have no issues with GW paints in it.

Ideally you want the consistency of milk. Not skim, not cream.

And you will have to do several coats. GW white takes up to seven coats to achieve a depth of colour, for example.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).

Sweet I'll try thinning it down more.

try either tamiya acrylic thinner or car windscreen washer instead of water - water in an airbrush is not your freind!

Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!!

There may be another problem. Is the airbrush your using plastic on the inside? I dont know how this will effect internal mixing of acrylics since I believe the Model masters may ahve been anticipating solvent based enamels.

More and more im just suggesting people buy paint made for airbrushes. Its often much less hassle. It still needs thinning but it usually behaves better.

if you have severe clogging issues clean your brush thoroughly first.

Then dilute 50 50, if that doesn't work go 70 30 then 80 20

And water isn't a great diluent. Windex, IPA, or mixtures you can find posted anywhere that often say

30-50% IPA or windex. <5% glycerine(not require but helps a bit) and the rest paint. Mixtures get more complicated from there.

But be patient, if your GW paints aren't too old(haven't started clumping in the bottle) then you just need to do multiple thin coats for a nice finish. If you rush it with too thick paint to do a single coat you'll have far more clogging.
