Basically I have a Netgear DG834, pretty much this one http://www.amazon.co.uk/Netgear-DG834-Router-4-port-Switch/dp/B0000E0YHF/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1259255216&sr=8-2 (I say pretty much as mine is version 4 and I can't tell if thats the v4 one.)

It was a replacement for my v3 that died about 3months ago, its been used daily and left on 24-7 and this morning after trying to log on I ran into an issue. Its connecting sort of, as in its not coming up with a net not found message, just seems to be trapped forever in connecting to my home page.

Going into my router it says its connected, however every 30secs or so the ADSL and Internet LED's turn off, as if its lost total connection, then after a few seconds the ADSL LED comes back up, it takes 30secs to bring the Net LED up, hangs around for 30sec to a min then both drop off again.

I've unplugged for 10secs numerous times, and at one point the internet LED turned red, but hasn't after other tries, but each time no matter what I do, PC restart, wire's changed, new ADSL/phone connector it reverts back to the both LED's turn off, reboot again sequence.

I've rung my provider (Tiscali/Talk Talk) and they say the connection at their end is fine, but they want to do a test tomorrow when I'm online just to make sure its not a line issue. Although I do fear thats will be an exercise in spending an hour talking to techies at 25p a min with no results.

I'm asking here to see if anyone has seen this problem before and can pass advice, especially if its the 'aye had the same problem, don't waste your time, the Router is boned buy a new one!' type advice as I'll just go and get a new one.

edit - oh and I'm posting at work, hence why I couldn't do the test today.

well I'm in the IT business (busy with my final exams for school) but don't know any solution that says "well there's your problem"

Have you already checked if its running on the latest firmware? http://kb.netgear.com/app/products/model/a_id/2322
There's also a Knowledgebase at the bottom of the page, maybe it can help you further.

Good luck with the problem!!

Cheers for that, downloaded it and will take home, also spotted a couple of fix ideas there that I hadn't considered such as reset to factory settings and fill in all the details again.

So aye, thanks for the pointers.

Equipment does fail, and we are always surprised that it did it right when we were using it or between when we las used it and the next time we wanted to use it.

I had a router die on me but I can't remember the exact symptoms. OTOH with luck a router will keep going for years without a problem. My current one has several months uptime and is over two years old.

Thanks, and typically I have come home, thought I'd just check as the internet light seems to be on and its back up and fine.

So either a odd problem that sorted itself, or it was some kinda work on the exchange that Tiscali was unaware of.

Will keep an eye on it for the next few days, but as its back up I'm loathe to start messing around with it while its working.

It's possible it could be your AC adapter. You can pick up another one from an electronics store, but you'll need to match the amperage and voltage to get the proper amount of juice flowing to all components of the router. My neighbor has a WGR614v4 that I helped them pick out and also setup, with the AC adapter that died about 2-3 weeks ago. So it's possible you're could be on the way out.
