Hi. I'm planning to move to a newer and much larger space and I was absolutely hoping for a 40k table to be set up in the new living room so I could have some weekend 40k parties and game anytime with my roommate who also plays 40k and Battlefleet Gothic.
However 6x4 (and preferably 6x6) tables are just impossible to find. I was hoping to keep it as cheap as possible as well so spending above £100 would be an annoyance.
What do people use for their own 40k tables?

I use a large pasting table. Pasting as in for applying paste to wallpaper before you hang it. It's about 6' by 4' and although the surface isn't perfectly flat it's strong enough to take 2' by 4' slabs of MDF so I can set it up for 6' or 8' by 4'. Add a cloth or battlemat and there you go plus it's nice and easy to put up and down if you can't use the space for gaming all the time. Can't recall how much it cost since it was bought a good few years ago but wouldn't have been even close to $100 equivalent. A look round your local DIY store might be well worth your time.

Pretty screamingly basic, but effective.
6x6 piece of plywood from your local hardware store, and two plastic sawhorses from the same place.
Also has the advantage that you can store it pretty easily out of the way when you're not using it.

I have two 6' x 2' wooden slabs screwed together ontop on a tv stand, and is a great surface. Also dubbles as a table and bed, for for the simple solutions.

Here in the states we have home depot or lowes whichever you prefer that will cut 2' x 2' sections of plywood or MDF for you so that way it makes it easier to move around small sections of board than a 6x6 section.

Try using a couple pieces of plywood for a base, then buy some foam board, and glue them on the top. It will allow you to mold your own terrain & craters.
