Well, I'm darn tired of looking at my beautiful little resin Death Korps of Krieg soldiers sitting in that case the color of old movies. So I've decided the only thing That is gonna get me painting is a forced paintathon. Starting tonight at 1800 hrs (American Mountain Time) I'm going to sit down and paint for 24 hours straight and get as much of this army as I can painted, all the while posting an update every hour or so. In about twenty to thirty minutes I"ll have the before pictures posted up for everyone to see what I'm up against. I'll throw a list in there too.

This is should be interesting. I wonder what happens if you fall asleep painting.

He wakes up with a face full of paint and a Hello Kitty IG regiment?

Looking forward to seeing how this goes. Good luck, man!

Yep, that's the squad in a water and simple green mix, realized I messed up bad from the beginning, so... gotta strip the paint. Gonna start on a normal squad, pics of pre and post based coming soon.

Oooh! I just hope that you have this kind of endurance. I tried something just like this once, and woke up to spilled paint and a crapload of horribly painted minis, that I then proceeded to strip..... None survived.

If I had a dollar for every dollar I spent I'd have all my money back.

That sucks!

If you don't mind, I'd like seeing pictures and some talk of the stripping process. I have a bunch of models I'll need to strip at some point and I'd be very interested in seeing how it goes.

This will be impressive if you paint them well. Will you have to spend precious time buying caffeinated drinks?

Candroth - I think after you let them sit in the stripping fluid (sounds dirty ) you take a toothbrush and scrub the paint away... I am not completely sure though, I need to strip some models too and I could use a few reminders.

I'll be following this...

Rico.

I'm wondering if we'll see a noticeable drop in quality as the night wears on. definitely looking forward to the "after action report" to see how much was actually accomplished, how well, advice etc. as I might have a few of these coming my way in the near future.

Here is the New squad ready to to paint, it's just a normal squad, as for the request for stripping procedure, It's a new thing to me, but when I get to that, I will get a quick tutorial ready for you all. This was the worst priming of all time, everything was going wrong, but it go done, dang it. Hour four is under way. OH, and I already bought the caffeinated drinks.

Next update in an hour and a Half.

Hour 4 saw the first half of the coat step completed, now all I need to do is wash them and the coats will be done. Morale is high, and energy is abundant.

and no, there are NO plastic, only RESIN!

Another quick update: Taco bell run for that fourth meal energy!

Well it's 3:08 am and progress is slow. Hour ten and the squad is coming together at a sluggish pace, yet I am painting as fast as I comfortably can. The failed PCS squad is still in the simple green, and the CCS is primed and ready to paint. Morale is high, and energy is above expected. One of two monsters have been drank and fourth meal Taco bell is churning in my stomach as we speak. Here are some more pictures.

Just a small update... waiting for some wash to dry then more pics.

Hour 13... Morale low, energy... constant. It's taken me thirteen hours including a rather rough start to get one squad half done. THAT is slow slow painting considering I've seen guys paint armies in that much time. DOH! never the less, I will continue to paint, and at least get this squad done, and another started (the next planned one is the CCS) It is 615 am, the sun is coming up, and my wife is sound asleep in bed. Here are more pictures.

A further note. Next post, whenever it happens. I will include the rough list of whats in the army as well as an update on the simple green project

The Progress so far

7:45 Am, hour 14 is almost up. Who the hell's idea was this anyway, he was an idiot. Maybe it's just because my progress is so little and I've been working almost nonstop all night. At least I have something to show for it so far. I don't think endurance is going to be the factor in finishing this 24 hours. i've stayed up that long before (thank you, army) but motivation; that is key. Energy continues to remain high, I'm probably just wired. I must get back to the grind session.

EDIT: The simple green models have come out and the paint is practically sliding off with no apparent damage to the models, a toothbrush will work perfectly once I get around to that part of army again.

Hopefully encouragement can egg you on.

Perhaps turn this into an article when all is said and done?

Good work. The colors are clean and I like the goggle contrast.

Thanks article mod guy, perhaps an article on suicidally long painting sessions is in good order, some doe's and some don't s, maybe a checklist... I'll definitely look into this.

That is a towl, one which I am throwing in at 15 hours and 48 minutes(8:48 AM). Lesson 1: Shouldn't have started at night after having had been up all day. Lesson 2: Have someone there doing the same thing with you. get a battle buddy. Lesson 3: if at first you don't succeed, simple green will.

that was the progress after a bad start and a full night of painting. not too terribly bad, I got my motivation back which is what I was trying to pry out of this bastard of a session in the first place. I'll move this over to a normal PLOG in the next couple of days, so that ya'll can keep up to date with it, and for the record I do plan on trying this again.

My hats off too!

Painting for 24 hours straight is incredibly tough, something I've managed just a handful of times myself.

Preparation and companionship are key, as is starting in the morning after a good night's sleep. All things you have learned through this process.

I wish you the best of luck the next time you attempt the 24 hour challenge!

Cheers
Dave
