A recent trade netted me an extra 6 squads of kasrnkin models!. I love them, however, they do have carapace armour . I'm thinking of smoothing off the armour on their legs, lower sides and lower back. Has anyone done anything like this before? In terms of WYSIWYG, will people just assume they have carapace or is removing most of it suffice for not having the carapace? Thanks for any input!

Er...why get the Kasrkin to use as veterans without carapace armor?

You could just use normal Cadians.

Or are you just wanting the respirator styled heads?

If so: Forge World. They've got those exact heads, with enough in each pack to do a squad and have a few spare heads to do a Commissar or a Colonel wearing a peaked cap.

Sell them, buy other things. Seriously, with the fact that they are metal and that the armor is all over there is no way in hell you would be able to remove all their carapace. Not to mention that they would still have hot-shot lasguns, which vets do not have. Just use normal guardsmen or convert from there, don't convert backwards from kasrkin.

So long as you have no carapace armour in your army list, it's not a problem, don't try removing it - just point out to opponents that these units wear bulky local armour variants that _look_ similar to carapace armour but only give a normal IG 5+ save.
