I love these little guys but only sometimes. I find there dependent on who you are fighting. I wouldnt recommend them against marines but guard or eldar, throw as many as you can get together.

I recommend, as with all gaunt types, to have at least 15 models in each unit. Upgrades are purely optional and dependent upon points usually.

If your starting nids and have some then use them. They did well for me in the beginning but they did eventually get phased out most of the time.
