I was interested in getting Rebel Minis's 15mm sci-fi Sahadeen, and I just wondered
what the "standard" basing practice for 15mm sci-fi rulesets is? I'm familiar with the
Flames of War 4-5 men on a base convention. Are sci-fi rulesets similar or do you
base individually?
Thanks.

It depends on the set. Some use individual bases, some use fireteam or squad bases.
IMO you are better off going for the fireteam/squad base because 40K is individual basing so you want something different.
The other thing is moving a heap of 15mm figures individually is boring, and the point of using 15mm is partly to have more figures on the table.
However I am not able to recommend a specific ruleset because I have only just decided to put all my 15mm on squad bases and I haven't decided out the rules to use.

Are squad bases similar in size to Flames of War?

I don't know what FoW base sizes are.
One SF game I'm looking at uses circular bases, 1 inch with two figures on if I remember correctly.
Personally I would like a game with maybe three figures or a heavy weapon or similar on a base of 30 or 40mm, or maybe a hexagonal base (to give facings).
Most rules are adaptable so if you are able to make two armies, you put everything on the bases you like and do a bit of tinkering.

Star Grunt II uses individual basing, because it is really just a 25mm game with smaller figures for a better sense of realism. (15mm is really an option)
You should decide if you want something similar in your games, or something more company level, where you have figures based by fire team, ala FOW.
