Hey all! New to FoW and I have a quick question. I picked up the big rulebook and Fortress Europe yesterday. I'm going to get the North Africa book, because I want to be able to do mid and late war battles.

Here's the question: What, if any, army is in both books? I'd like to be able to fight mid and late war battles without having to model 2 different armies(individual unit swaps are fine). If they don't have any armies in common, is there one of the smaller books that shares one with Fortress Europe?

I leterally have no preference between countries, so anything is fair game.

Thanks in advance.

The armies to be honest in Flames of War are set into the E/M/L era's to reflect the authenticity of the forces of the time. There are not many armies that can be merged with each other let alone forces from two different time era's.

One does stand out however Soviet armies are pretty consistant Strekovy and Guards armies dont vary much between the 1942 and 1944-1945 lists so are very versatile in those respects the only things that change are the armour gone are the early war KV5's and in come the T72s.

I hope this helps

The lists themselves don't matter as much to me, I'm more concerned about being able to use the same models from one force to the other.

Thanks again.

the best one too do early, mid and late war is the German Fallschrimjager... There a Light Infantry army... Once you get the Core build up.. you can Add late war tanks or platoons too it....

Same thing with the US para troopers too, once you get the Core units downs... you just have too add late or mid war units to it....

I so far have three mid war fallschrimjager armies
and four late war armies all from two box sets

I'll echo soviets with the forthcoming eastern front book are your best bet for a consistent army between M and L periods without having to worry about colour schemes changing and keeping fairly similar models. The difference in colour schemes for US, German and Birtish armour is too significant to get away with doing a tank company or mech, but as has been mentioned, a pure infantry company might be ok.

Okay, I've decided to go with the British Rifle Company out of Fortress Europe. I like the look of the british tanks the most, and the infantry all pretty much look the same to me from arms length. I want an army with a mix of all kinds of units, and the rifle company looked like a good way to do that especially if I want to use the same models for mid war. I'm thinking to use:

Normandy theater

HQ
3 infantry platoons
1 Sherman platoon using the tanks from Open Fire
1 Churchill platoon
+ various AT/AA/Artillery platoons

I know the tanks won't carry over to mid, but do y'all know of an infantry uniform color scheme that would work for both mid and late?

Thanks for all the help, btw.

Actaully, British infantry is not a good crossover (MW-LW) army. You basically have 3 different uniforms - 8th army Desert sand color (figure has shorts) , Tunisia/Italy (1st Army) brown toursers and khaki shirt, and Europe '44 when they go to a different color (green) and uniform style - especailly helmet. Vehicles have the same color issues as well as the changeover of vehicle types. You can mix the Desert and 'Italian' style figures in one army but not the later Europe ones.

Shermans and Churchills were used midwar bty - both used in Tunisia, many shermans at Alamein, and even a few Chuchills (King Force). Paint scheme is different of course.

I ordered the BBX11 late war British Rifle Company and some churchills from the warstore, I don't think I'm going to worry too much about keeping them consistant. I'll just play LW for awhile, and snag an early or mid war army later. Is the picture on the BBX11 box good for normandy+ forces?

Thanks for the heads up btw

Thats the British that take you from Normandy beaches to the end of the war.
They can also double as Canadians.

This might be helpfull.
