Subject: Downside of Emergency Disembarking?

This came up in a game on Saturday:
My opponent has CSM and has 1st turn. I'm playing SM (doesn't really matter) and I'm going second. On my turn (bottom of Turn 3), I block off the access points of a Zerker Rhino and Wreck it (NOT explode), so he is forced to take an emergency disembark. He argued that because the wording of emergency disembarking is that the unit cannot do anything for the remainder of the turn (did not specify game turn), then they could act normally on his next turn. Is that the case or were we missing something?

Turn = player turn unless stated otherwise. See brb page 9 IIRC.

So basically, if I force them to emergency disembark, they suffer no penalty?

More or less.
There's been a bit of discussion on how emergency disembarking is supposed to work with regards to enemy damage to the vehicle.
Some think that the 'can't do anything for the rest of the turn' was supposed to be 'game turn' rather than just player turn.
Some think that they just failed to consider emergency disembarking during your opponent's turn.
Some think that you're not actually supposed to be able to perform an emergency disembark when the vehicle is fried... or in other words, that emergency disembarkation is only intended to apply when the unit is disembarking voluntarily, which would happen in their own movement phase and cause them to miss the rest of their turn.
As written, though, the rules do allow for an emergency disembark in your opponent's turn, and the prohibition on doing anything else that turn applies only to that player turn.
Until they get around to FAQ'ing it, that's where it stands.

The idea that they can't do anything in the game turn is pretty daft; that would mean that only the player who went second would be negatively affected.

As far as I can tell, it prevents players from getting around access point limitations.
Imagine if ED had no down-side whatsoever.
It would become pretty common for a player to block his own access points (especially on a chimera) so they could disembark from a better point on the vehicle without having to rotate it.
The ED rules work just fine, without having to guess what was "intended."
