There is plenty out there on Tau Titans, but very little in the way of how-to guides. I have a friend who is interested in building one, and he is likely going to give it a try with plasticard. He is a pure beginner so he would need a step-by-step guide. Does anyone know of something like this out there on the net? Please let me know, PM is OK also.
I know that officially, there are no Tau Titans, but hey, he really wants to build one. And of course, he wants it to look Tau.
Thanks for any help on this one,
Solorg

I do not remember any Tau Titan step-by-steps. Plus most of the Tau Titans I have seen were nothing but big Crisis Suits and some Anime Toys converted. I do not believe that a walking Titan is very Tauish.

A little friendly advice: Your friend would be better off tackling a smaller subject for his first scratch build. There are certain skills like scoring and snapping and fabricating tabs and corner joints that he needs to master before picking up a large project.
That said, if your friend is a glutton for punishment and wants to throw away $30 in plasticard point him here:

This should provide a taste of what he is in for.

I agree, Tau seem more of the GIANT flying vehicles and stuff instead of a robotech type titan. Obviously to each his own, but I too would suggest him building some type of Tau super heavy in the form of a flying something Tell him I said good luck tho

If you want to make a Tau Titan, I recommend looking at Kotobukiya's Armored Core models.
They look great, and would make a great starting point.

Well, if you are savvy with bits, see if you can cobble together a monster like this:
It looks to me like literally just a massive kitbash with limited additions. Just be creative and anything you come up with will probably work.
Here is another that is just fantastic and is mostly just a kitbash with a few mods:
Sadly, I don't think there are tutorials for this stuff.
Good luck!

This is my concept sketch for a Tau Trilobyte Class Titan I was planning to build a while back, and may still. I posted it on Tau Online ages ago while I was still playing Tau, and not marines. I love the idea, and it may give you some.
Hope you like

em_en_oh_pee - makes me grin with joy! Awesome pics! But too complex for my novice friend, I think.
Thanks all for the information so far. I agree that the titan is probably not Tau-ish, but he is feeling the Titan-Envy since Orks get Stompas and the Imperium obviously gets some SWEET titan-class units, too. He says, "Come ON, if Orks can build one, surely the powerful Tau Empire could create an even more advanced model FOR THE GREATER GOOD!"
My friend is a novice with scratchbuilding - Green Git, that's an AMAZING tutorial you posted, but is probably out of his league since it involves a lot of curved surfaces (you have to hold the plasticard over a stove burner to warp it like that, I think - and I don't want my friend to burn himself). I think he will likely do better with the "giant crisis suit" style that Pipboy suggested.
I expect that he'd want to work with Plasticard.
I guess a tutorial on how to scratchbuild Crisis Suits might work, since he could just scale everything up a bit.
Am I looking for the Holy Grail of Tau? Thanks everyone for your thoughts.

I swear, everyone who says Tau should not have titans are nuts! They have Mechs! Why on Terra would they not scale them up!?! Seriously?! Every army wants a giant robot, period.
The pics I posted are just kitbashes, so they should not be that technically difficult. Just glue pieces together until it looks right. Or draw up an idea and figure out what to glue where.

Heck that first kitbash you posted is basically a hammerhead, 2 piranha gunships, a couple of stealthsuits, some crisit suit bits (including six plasma rifles, probably at least 2 fusion blasters, and a couple of shield genny's and some gun drones). The only parts of that that aren't from kitbash are the upper leg armour plating, the "heels" of the model (both of which have to be plasticard) and some of the tubing. Great work, whoever did it.

And would you believe that was just the proto-type? He made a second, improved version of it.

According to official fluff Tau don't build titans, they build huge fliers.
I agree tough, it seems silly for the premier giant robot faction not to have some giant robots.
It will be extremely expensive to munge together half a dozen GW kits -- they run at £20+ each -- especially when some scratchbuilding is also required.
I would advise you to look at a big Gundam or Macross kit for your first go.
A 1/100 scale Gundam stands about five to 7 inches tall. Here are some suggestions...

Very nice. I am going to pass these ideas on to my friend. There's also a local shop that carries models like these (Gundam) so maybe he will do a bit of shopping there, too.
True, you don't want the titan to scream GUNDAM but then again, they look Tau to me, and a little modification is the name of the game anyway, right?
Thanks all,
