So my local store had a Black Friday sale and I managed to pick up a few good deals.
Imperial Strongpoint - $52
Skyshield Landing Pad - $24
2x Drop Pod - $19.20/each
All items were tax free. Not a bad deal, but how did you do?

I grabbed an Ork Battlewagon, 2 packs of Lootas/Burnas, 1 Pack of Boyz, a squad of PAGK, a GK Termie squad, and 2 Grey Knight Terminators with Psycannons from my FLGS for 30% off everything. Was pretty pleased.

My FLGS had some nice ones, and the ULGCS (Unfriendly local gaming chain store) had some pretty crappy deals (15% off GW, like it matters). All I got was a 2.5" foam tray for my Anima minis and a few packs of buy 1 get 1 free Yu-gi-oh! cards, but it was only 15 bucks

2003 was the last year that GW had chain-wide sales. For several years before then it was something that occured once or twice per year. For many years they had 25% off everything in the store sales either at individual stores or chain-wide. Years before that there would be all kinds of promotions like buy-2-get-1-free blisters, etc. Select items sometimes would be 50% off at sales events. I even bought some Forge World and Bulldog Buckle licensed items on sale years ago. After 2003 GW decided not to have routine sales any longer, though there are still other promotions like the ones shown on the website and the "grand opening" coupon promotions advertised through White Dwarf. Sales promotions tend to be much more limited these days with tight corporate control and promotion.

It's amazing what you can find on the Internet outside of games forums with a simple search. I'll let Wiki explain it to save me some typing... from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Friday_(shopping) Black Friday is the Friday following Thanksgiving Day in the United States, which is the beginning of the traditional Christmas shopping season. The term dates back to at least 1966, although its usage was primarily on the East coast. The term has become more common in other parts of the country since 2000. Because Thanksgiving falls on the fourth Thursday in November in the United States, Black Friday occurs between the 23rd and the 29th of November. According to Reuters, in 2007 135 million people participated in the Black Friday shopping rush. Black Friday is not an official holiday, but many employees have the day off as part of the Thanksgiving holiday. This increases the number of potential shoppers. Retailers often decorate for the Christmas and holiday season weeks beforehand. Many retailers open extremely early, with most of the retailers typically opening at 5AM or even earlier. Some of the larger retailers (depending on the location) such as Sears, Best Buy, Macy's, Toys "R" Us, and Walmart have been reported to open as early as midnight on the start of Black Friday in localized areas and remain open for 24 hours throughout the day until midnight the following Saturday. Upon opening, retailers offer doorbuster deals and loss leaders to draw people to their stores. Although Black Friday, as the first shopping day after Thanksgiving, has served as the unofficial beginning of the Christmas season at least since the start of the modern Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in 1924, the term "Black Friday" has been traced back only to the 1960s. The term "Black Friday" originated in Philadelphia in reference to the heavy traffic on that day (see Origin of the name "Black Friday" below). More recently, merchants and the media have used it instead to refer to the beginning of the period in which retailers go from being in the red (i.e., posting a loss on the books) to being in the black (i.e., turning a profit).

In the U.S we always have our thanksgiving on a thursday which honors the first one that the pilgrims did comming over here in the plymouth, and jamestown colonies. For some reason though years ago all the stores after thanksgiving would start their big sales, and it ended up as the friday after thanksgiving(the next day) would be the biggest shopping day of the year as everyone wanted to get to the deals first. The downside is usually every year at least one too two people get trampled to death when the stores open at 5am. Crazy huh!

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House! |

I remember getting loads of Dogs of War stuff half price, I had the Giants of Albion for £12.50!! That's the last decent sale I saw at GW. Were you there for the great lead sale? Now that was a sale - everything with lead in was 50% off. Unfortunately we were broke at the time and bought hardly anything. Alas.

When I had my one dream trip to the UK in 1995 I visited a UK GW store and they were having a week-long sale chain-wide. Free blister with every box set and 4 pounds off anything with the purchase of a Codex. I bought way more stuff than I planned when I first walked in there.

I picked up my items early then took my wife on a day long date. Definitly good to spend some good time with that fav person! Automatically Appended Next Post: Two things I have noticed.
1. An offical GW chain store would do poor in out town. Our local game store sales all gw stuff for 25% less then retail all the time and doesn't charge any of the regulars tax. If you buy a lot then he discounts it even less than that.
2. I don't think I would have started playing warhammer if I had to pay the retail some people are forced to pay.
