So I feel that my necron army although a great challenge to play against, it's mindless and has no diversity at all. (1 lord, 50 warriors, 6 destroyers, 2 monoliths). As a result I put wraiths and flayed ones, among other models on a Christmas wish list sent out across my family.
I was just wondering how good are flayed ones and wraiths at around 1750-2000pts? How should I change my list to include them? Do either units need a lord nearby?

As cool as flayed ones look (the only Necron models that I REALLY, REALLY like), they suck.
They'd be great if they were troops, but the fact that they're elites makes them horrible.
Wraiths need either rending or power weapons to be useful. They can do decently against light armour, but at that point, why not just get a far superior heavy destroyer?

Generally anything Wraiths can do, Scarabs can do better.

I second both, flayed ones might look appealing, but an expensive, slow moving melee unit, that's not even a specialist, sucks.. real bad. Wraiths are alright, but they are expensive points and model wise, plus you could go with scarabs which do what wraiths do anyways. Unfortunetly for necrons, what you have is all the need or could actually use, if you had to choose one, I would go with wraiths, since I think flayed ones are close to useless, if I want to pay 18 points for a bolter-less space marine.

Sad to hear all this. I love Necrons armies that have diversity, but 5th Ed ruined a lot. Pariahs are another unit that everybody wants to love, but they just suck.

I have been using Wraiths with Destroyer Lords lately. They have earned their keep above and beyond each time.
The Destroyer Lords are attached to a unit of two wraiths, ensuring the unit maintains it's toughness 6.
I float a single wraith within 6 inches of that four model cluster for purposes of WWB.
It makes a disgustingly tough unit. T6 with a 3+ iSv is very nice.
The unit having a Phase Shifter, Res Orb, Gaze of Flame and Nightmare Shroud doesn't hurt either.
Warscythes are a must.
I haven't much luck with wraiths outside this configuration.
