quick question and hopefully simple, If you shoot at a plaguemarine squad and there is one guy left, does he have to take a leadership test or does fearless allow him to stand firm? My reason for asking is for a few aspects.

1 - the squad being under 50% so they would never rally if flee.
2- does fearless just make him refuse to run or would be take any extra wounds like if in CC

also if a thousands son was in the same situation after shooting to confirm for me, if he fails his test and flees he could never rally due to being under 50% nd would continue to flee until off the table correct?

Thanks

No fearless units do not run or get pinned minus scurrying out of a rhino when it blows up. That is the only time they will ever possibly get pinned. Fearless units only take casualties for being fearless in CC.

THey cannot EVER get pinned - the 4th ed "auto pin" has gone.

They count as automatically passing the panic check for losing 25% casualties, and suffer no ill effects from this.

In close combat they trigger "No Retreat!" if they lose, see your rulebook.

Partially wrong, fearless units automatically pass morale and pinning tests, they can't get pinned when disembarking from a wreck. This is no longer entanglement as in 4th edition, but a regular pinning test. Fearless units pass that test automatically.

Otherwise Vindicator#9 is correct, only time a fearless unit (no matter how far they've been reduced) takes extra wounds is from the no retreat rule in close combat.

I haven't played Chaos Marines myself, so don't know what morale rules they go by (compared to my Space Marines that can always regroup, as long as they're in coherency and more than 6" from enemies). But yes, if a unit is not fearless, is below 50%, doesn't have a rule allowing them to rally below half strength and falls back, they will do so until they run off the table, or get to do a regroup test (by being assaulted for example).

Vindicator is mostly correct, except that Fearless units automatically pass all Pinning checks. Even exploding Rhinos won't make those Plague Marines go to ground.

So no, barring any special rules that say otherwise, Fearless units never, ever fall back. You can kill all but one of them, but he'll always automatically pass his Morale tests.

See p44 of the rulebook. He's not just taking any leadership test; he's taking a specific one called a Morale check. Fearless units automatically pass all Morale checks (rulebook, p75), and never fall back.

Easy. Those Nurgle boys won't fall back, even if you kill all but one of them. That's the whole point of Fearless.
