So, in cleaning out the garage, I came across my old... and I mean old... 40k orks.. a lot of stuff from the early 90s. There's a reasonable chunk of it still in blisters, too.

I'm looking to probably offload most of this stuff, as my desire to play orks is gone (I was a big fan of the goofyness of the list: the random elements and the toyz). Question is... what's their general value, seeing as how out-of-scale stuff is from the current, massive-bodied orks? I think the old 2nd edition orks would make good current-day gretchin, but next to a squad of new Boyz, the old ones are just silly.

Should I try to offload them individually, or as a huge set?

I'll probably put them up on here first, then feeBay if nobody here wants them.

My main problem is their value - while they're older, "classic" models, they're also completely out of scale with current ork themes... and that makes them very difficult to price for me. The in-blister Harlequins and "Space Marines in Historic Armour" are a bit easier to price.

Thanks in advance.

If I was you I'd look at selling them individually on ebay, especially the ones still in the blister packs. Perhaps with an option to buy them all now for X$s for ease of sale.

You'd be surprised how many people there are out there who collect and/or build armies of old OOP models. Have a nose round the sales threads on here for advice first, if you're still stuck for ideas them PM one of the sales threads MODS and they'll point you in the right direction.

... or else.

I'd recommend pictures though.

Could we get an idea of what you have?

I know I'm looking for a few things from that era(a Boss to use as a Nob and a couple heavy weapon Orks as well as some appropriate runtherders to go with the 2nd edition box set Orks and Gretchin I have lying around)

It all depends. If you post up a comprehensive list of what you've got I'm sure people will be more than happy to give an idea of the approximate worth of the various bits.

The value of anything on the second hand market is exactly what you get for it on any given second. Start outrageously high, because people will try to con you into paying them to take it.

On selling them, you can start by first doing your homework. check out this trade forum, then look over at warseer, Barter Town, Frothers, and then check those "Other SItes."
Feebay, Chav's List, ect.

I'd recommend homework first, THEN putting them up for a respectable price for the bid.

You can have yourself a Silent Auction, a across the board sell, or sell them by the blister. People will pay you up to at least 50% up, based on the mini, or if the mini is one of those that was a large scale distribution, then don't expect to get much of them sold.
2d edition grots with the auto guns are not going to sell very well, and you need to remembere that everyone still already has these guys to the nines backed up in thier collection.

Those blisterpacks that you have there will go better being sold as OOP MIB then they will as "Old 40K stuff. I just want to get rid of it." Ask for about 50% up, and don't expect much more, seeing as ORKs are pretty much a hot item based on thier last release, and the 3d and 4th ed run had a better load per box then the new 10 model plastic one, so I could hazard a guess that someone would pay up to around 50 bucks for that box of stickbommers.
THOSE are the ones that are money makers. the boxes with the 30 or so boys in them, and the ones with bits you can't get without sacrificing your first born.

But before I degress evern more, look at similar or the same product being sold by other people, see if it has even sold, or if it is glutted on the market before even bothering to sell it. Otherwise, you might do better by dropping a line to one of these E stores like the Warstore, or similare to ask them about getting something like some E credit for the trades. Sometimes your LGS will give you something of a deal, if you look thier way. SOme stores have thier own online add to the stores and sell stuff through them like the OOP stuff.

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.

Some 2nd ed stuff in blister sells for a lot (IG, Nids, deathwing), but orks simply aren't a hot OOP army. You'll still get a decent price, just be prepared to only get a few bucks a fig.
