Posting this here just to see if anyone could help with a problem I'm having with the citadel chaos black undercoat.

When undercoating after a few minutes of drying the undercoat finish starts to go weird. The only way to describe it is that the finish looks kind of frosty

I've used this spray can before and not had a problem with the previous patch and I shook the can for longer than recommended before spraying.

I've only sprayed 5 models previously with this can so I doubt its running out.

when you say frosty, do you mean it is turning white? or greyish?

or is it getting "fluffy"?

Its either white or grey hard to tell. My first thought was that I had missed parts when spraying. However I then realised that part had already been sprayed before and its also doing the same on the base.

well, it could be that it hasnt mixed enough. I would spend a good 5 min shaking the can before spraying, and then spray a sheet of card board or something disposable to clear the nozzle. Also, make sure you are not spraying in a humid environment, or one that is too cold. Those factors may also change the chemical reactions in the paint.

Thanks for the help I've shook it for 5 mins and given it another go

To add further areas that were black were turning grey/white so one minute the affect was minimal and the next it had spread.

If there are still some areas with this problem will paint still stick to it? Was just thinking that if it will I'll just finish off the undercoat with watered down chaos black

Too cold where you're spraying.

Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!!

I have had the same problem with Citadel Sprays, I have identified it as too cold and /or too damp, due to my wife asthma I have to spray my models outside, so during the winter months this can be a bit of a problem.

Do not Varnish your models with Citadel Spray Varnish during the cold, damp weather as this with have the same effect and destroy all your previous hard work, (found this out the hard way)
