how does the monoliths gauss flux arcs works? does every unit around 12" get a D6 hit, or does every guns get a D6 for every unit within 12"? just asking cus last time i played necrons, i had 6 units (2 of them were vehicles) of space marines, and couldnt figure out how the guns worked. my opponents thought it was too unfair if every gun fired 6D6 shots from all the guns, so we just gave D6 hits on all units within 12". nearly killed all his units (i completely ripped his land raider redeemer. it had only multi melta left in the end of the game +it was immobilized! i love gauss weapons ) in the end of the game.

My understanding is that each enemy unit in range takes D6 shots.

Yes, each unit in range takes d6 shots, not d6/unit in range.

What harm can it do to find out? It's a question that left bruises down the centuries, even more than "It can't hurt if I only take one" and "It's all right if you only do it standing up." Terry Pratchett, Making Money

All units within 12" get D6 Gauss Flux Arc shots EACH.

ok so, you roll 1d6, that determines how many shots go off. do you roll 1d6 for each unit in range or just 1 and apply the result to all enemy units in range AND they don't auto hit right? i have to roll to hit still? been naggin at me a while

Measure 12" from the monolith.

Discover that there are 4 units within 12".

You now can take d6 shot at each of those units.
You still have to roll to hit, and roll to wound (or Pen)

Since they are only S5, I am not sure how it destroyed most of his units, or even did much more than scratch his Land Raider.

You only roll 1D6, that's the number of shots you take at every unit within 12". You don't roll a D6 for each unit.
You then roll to hit and to wound against each unit.

The codex says it all:

NECRON CODEX, PAGE 22, Summary, Necron Weapons wrote:Gauss Flux Arc. Type: "Heavy D6 (Per Target Unit)"
(Added emphasis)

So, this means, if you have 2 units within range, roll a D6 against unit A, and you get say a 5. That's 5 shots against Unit A (Roll to hit/wound as normal). Go to unit B, roll a D6. A 2 comes up, so Unit B takes 2 shots.

You roll a d6 for each unit in range. So, four units in range would each get a separate D6 roll to determine how many shots the Monolith fired at that unit (thus four separate d6 rolls are made).

You're right. I looked at the codex entry, but missed the summary. Good catch.

The weapon description says "D6 shots at every enemy unit ...". This of course conflicts with the summary on the very next page.

Can we get a "It's vague and can be played either way" without dragging this on forever?

Sorry, not done. Pick a unit within 12 inches, roll a D6. Resolve shots. Next unit repeat process. Repeat until all units within 12" are fired at.

Guys it could go one way or the other as the rules are very general. Agree before the game starts.

No offense but how can "Heavy D6 (Per Target Unit)" possibly mean that you only roll 1D6 and use that result for all units?

Apparently we have different versions of the codex because my version states "The Flux Arc projectors will fire D6 shots at every enemy model within 12" of the Monolith." My Codex was printed 2002

D6 shots as per my codex could mean roll a D6 and that many shots at all units

or

When you resolve your shooting on each individual unit you get D6 shots
