So normally I play tau but right now they're going on the shelf until they're full painted. And I heard about some crazy rule that if you take a warboss he allows a squad of meganobz to be troops. Then I thought to myself, hey, wouldn't it be fun to have an entire army of these guys? Normally play just under 2k points here (1700, 1850, etc) and a thought of 40 or so mega nobz waddling towards the enemy as fast as they can with smoke bellowing out from their backs amusing. Any thoughts?

If it's fun to lose all your games, then yes it would be fun.

It's viable, I suppose. However, you'll need a Battlewagon for each squad so they don't get shot up.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

Battle Wagons for all of these nobz is essential. Throw them in some BW and you have yourself a viable army.

A fun and effective combo is Ghaz with 10 cyborked nobs kitted for wound allocation with a painboy in a wagon and grotsnik with 10 cyborked manz (3 ssk, 3 srk, 3 normal) in a battlewagon. A third battlewagon with 15 burnaz and the rest trukks with 12 boyz, nob pk/bp.

Only uses 10 manz, but you have two squads of death with 5+ invulnerable and feel no pain.

The burnaz are just awesome when used correctly, and since your opponent will be hitting the nobz and manz with everything they have on 1 and 2, they should get to the other side of the board unscathed.

You lose the big mek kff save, but use the trukks as screens to get it back.

You're doing it wrong! Let go of your Tau proppaness and call it what it is. A Deffwing.

There would be similar problems to fielding a deathwing army -- your army costs a ton per model so you will be outnumbered often.
The other challenge is the real world cost with this army, as those damn meganob models are very expensive.

Still, for a themed army thats fun to run, go for it! It will be an extremely unique an fun army to play.

I ran something similar to what you're talking with the MANZ in proxy (hoping they might make plastic kits soon).

Warboss on bike w/ PK, etc.
10 x nobz bikers, unique for wound allocation funz

Ghazghkull
10 x MANZ, with kombi skorchas, BW transport

15 x Burnas
Battlewagon (H supp) for transport

Came out to 1850.

Whole thing travelled as a giant convoy of doom up one table edge. Got lucky against the turn of fire support, as most of his good stuff (IG) was spread a little too thin and cover fairly abundant. Smacked one side of the enemy hard, swept into rest, and was able to multi-assault fairly easily. In that scenario, MANZ and nob bikers win easily.

I don't think it works that often against many armies and any really prepared/skilled player should be able to dodge you long enough to pop you out in the open eventually, but it was/is fun to whip out once in a blue moon for an experimental game.

Thanks I'll think about it. Money isn't really a concern for me but even still I was planning on converting some just to break up the monotony. And to counter the fast thing couldn't you just give them all combi launchers? I dunno its just a for fun game and I know I'm going to be outnumbered all the time but as said its the same as a deathwing, low model count just a pain in the arse to kill.

I've been wanting to do a mega nobs list, but I just can't justify an ork codex attempt. Currently I'm planning on counts as wolf wing. More wargear possibilities for you to play with too.

It would be interesting to try using so many meganobz and so long as they have BW it can be a viable army. The only problem is all the money you would have to dump into paying for the meganobz.

Unless I find someone who just wants to give me a bunch of meganobz, I'm probably not gonna do this.

Meganobz plastic would be a friggin god send. Id go right out and buy 2 boxes right form the get go.

It would be fun, but I agree, after the first time you pull that army out, youll be screwed afterwards. Hell even just masses of shoota fire would kill that list rather easily.
But if you want to win some, then yea bring the BW and move move move. That would be cool seeing so many mega nobz tho

I used a squad of meganobs in a BW during an apoc game.
Our side had a strategic reserve that allowed for reserves to enter from any board edge. I ran them up next to a baneblade and used the PKs to tear it to pieces.

So while they might be expensive, there might be some instances where they can be very worthwhile.

Hopefully they will make a plastic box of Meganobs in march w/ the Incoming: Battle Missions, aswell as Manticores for IG.

We can only hope, aswell, I am making a Meganob-centric army, you can check it out if you like.
