Hey guys,

My friend and I have been formulating an IG army list for a while now and we've got it mostly figured out... the only AT in the army is a heavy weapons squad with Lascannons and a Leman Russ Demolisher with plasma guns (which we don't expect to live too long).

Anyway, we have enough points to either get a Vanquisher with Pask inside or a Valkyrie with vets and meltaguns.

My friend's arguement:

"for 30 points extra on the veteran sqaud, you could give them melta bombs AND a demo charge...

ALl of them melta bombs..

I mean, seriously dude, that'd pwn.

You could move 24", land, shoot 3 meltaguns, if that doesn't work, assualt and land 10 meltabombs (maximum) on the REAR of the tank...

And then, if you doubt the sqaud can live much longer next turn, run up to their most expensive unit and lob a demo charge into it..

The valk itself has some pretty good firepower as well

I think the amount of devestation these veterans could dish out to armour totally pwns that of the vanquisher"

Vanquisher I don't think I have to argue the perks for; with Pask it's BS4, only one shot I guess... but 72" range means it can quite safely sit at the edge of the table?

Anyhoo veteran dakkaites! Only YOU can solve our arguement!

Thanks for any replies

First off for the valk: If you more 24" you can't disembark unless he is talking about scout move or grav shoot, which grav shoot will be risky for metla range. You can't assault out of a valk unless you wait till your next turn, which will most likely end in a blown up valk and dead IG.

That aside the valk gives you mobility and some very nice firepower.

The Vanquisher is a very nice 72" range, so you can pick off those targets asap with the +D6 and +1 dmg. Things to remember, you have a 66% chance to hit for 205 pts and vs eldar serpents you lose that +D6.

The other thing to think about is the manitcore, for 160 pts you get a 1-3 blast barrage ordinance at s10 ap4. I have seen it in action and it is vicious.

Did you miss melta veterans? Chimeras? Vendettas? And other things? Use them for your anti tank in your list and that will fix the problem with lack of anti tank

Pask with a Vanquisher isn't that good. Its only one shot. A squad of melta veterans in a Vendetta or Valkyrie is the way forward.

Vend with Vets by far. Extra soldiers, extra mobility vs a single (albeit pwnage) AT shot whose shooter will atract waaaay too much undeserved attention as whose 72" range almost never gets fully used.

Many started armies including: / , , ....and Bretonnia

The land of cotton.

Depends on what kind of game you play.

If I was using a Chimera wall with Arty, the Vanquisher could work. The ability to reach out and touch the enemy with little to no fear of retribution can be very powerful. Cheap 55 point transports will give the Vanquisher a cover save, improving it's survivability. Add camo netting and the thing will be very, very hard to kill.

If you have little mobility or no cover the Vanquisher doesn't make as much sense. The Valk gives you mobility and the Vets w/Meltas are certainly good tank killers. They are one shot use though... they will most certainly die quickly once disembarked and their target killed. Going this route creates a "glass hammer" unit that won't last long in most cases. The upside is you now have TWO units... the Valk can contest/play vehicle hunter.

Valkyries and Vendettas are freaking awesome. If they aren't the best units in the game, they're pretty dang close. You won't regret that purchase at all.
