In games of Apoc, Mixed Doubles and games with alliances should I specify which race the preferred enemy rule counts against?

Oli: Can I be an orc?
Everyone: No.

Discuss it.

I have seen it played where it is an army (race), one of player's army (one time one had allies, once it was a player with two armies), a player, or even just any opponent -- the latter has been by far most common in games I have played for the general rule.

Editing to add:
For the general rule, it should be any enemy, as I read it.

The cat with the book's edit is correct. Per the way the rule is written every enemy the unit fights is preferred. (no wonder no one likes the Black Templar at parties)
