Well I have an airbrush now, and as fantastic as that fact is it came with a few problems.
To start, the entire reason I wanted one of these is so I can spray during the bad weather seasons. However, I've noticed when spraying that it generates quite a lot of paint clouds or mist or whatever you want to call it. This is most noticable when spraying white. Now I'm spraying acrylic with mostly water and a little alcohol so I'm not too worried about toxicity so much as paint settling all over my work area (and my lungs...). I built a spray booth to catch the over spray but it doesn't do anything about the mist of paintfog that churns out. I'm not spraying much either so I'm wondering if this is normal or perhaps has to do with how thin/unthin my paint is. I have my psi set at 20 so I don't "think" that I'm blasting it out too hard. I even added a little exhaust fan on top of my booth with some cloth filters but it doesn't seem to suck up the mist. Is it something I'm doing wrong or just worrying too much about?
Also, the manual that came with the brush said that it's made to spray just about anything so long as it's thinned correctly. It suggests thinning paint to milk consistency or thinner depending on needle size. I tried some soft body liquitex paint through it, well thinned, and it didn't work well at all. Should I use alcohol and water or just alcohol or just water? (My vallejo paints spray through it just fine though)
I'm using a paasch VL with the number 3 needle if that helps. Overall I'm really happy with it but I'm just wondering if the problems I'm having are typical and how to deal with them. I don't have a garage so I have to find a good solution to the first one.
