I'm playing a game with my friend and the question was raised, If a model is within the template, is it killed automatically? Or is it hit automatically (followed by armor saves etc.) If it is only hit, what are rules to determine if a model is killed?

Thanks

Templates (The teardrop flamer) hit automatically, Blasts do not. You roll a scatter die and 2D6 and subtract the firers BS (This is the standard some things are different, for example the Chapter Masters Orbital Bombardment always scatters 2D6 BS isnt subtracted.)

Once the hits are determined you roll to wound and the owner of the squad allocates the wounds to what models he wants, following the wound allocation rules, and then takes saves if applicable.

PG. 29-30 for the blast\template rules, Pg25 for wound allocation rules.

This should be in YMTC.

Blackeagle basically got it right. Once the final possition on the template/blast marker had the determined, all models touched by it or under it are hit. You then have to roll to wound as nornal and your opponent can take saves if applicable.

This wonderous and mystical information can be gleaned through the simple task of reading the rule book.

If we were to play each other in a tournament, not only would I table you, I would murder you, your family, every woman you ever loved and burn down your house. I mean, what's the point in winning if you allow people that don't take the game seriously to live?

Flamer Templates hit automatically, the only thing that's rolled for is the wound.

On blast weapons, you put the blast template over the intended target. You then roll a scatter die and 2D6. You subtract the firer's BS. Then you roll to wound if something is actually under the template.

That's how it works.

And before you ask, a twin linked flamer re rolls wounds, not hits like a normal twin linked weapon.

I would read the rule book, but simply put, I do not have one ATM, I am getting one soon, all I have is a 2nd edition rule book, and it did not fully answer my question. Thanks for the help though!

It would probably serve you best to not refer to the 2nd edition rulebook at all, as many of the rules have been changed since.
