Awesome fluff. Great models. And loss after loss after loss.

So, instead of abandoning my 'Crons for a new army, I've decided to work with them. Ok. what do we have that works? Destroyers, and Immortals. Everything else is crap, for the most part. What gives us the most trouble? Vehicles and terminators. With these in mind, I thought of a new army list.

HQ
1 Lord / rez orb

Elite
6 Immortals
6 Immortals

Troops
10 Warriors
10 Warriors

Fast attack
3 Destroyers
3 Destroyers
4 Scarabs

Heavy Support
2 H. Destroyers
2 H. Destroyers
1 Tomb Spyder

Total:1499

Whats different from your normal necron list? Less warriors. Warriors suck. They can only kill stuff in rapid fire range, and then they get assaulted and die. No monolith. A smart opponent will negate it anyway, for the most part. More immortals. Toughness five, str 5 assault 2 24" range guns? Yes, please. I'm considering taking out the scarabs for 2 more. Heavy Destroyers making a strong showing. Yes, they suck for their points, but when one doesn't solve the problem, send 4. Maybe not the best logic, but it's the best thing we got for killing vehicles and termies. only one lord. I realized Lords are a huge point sink. The 100 points base is killer. That's 5 or 6 Immortals once you add the obligatory upgrades. I love my destroyers, so that might be more than a normal list, but 6 is the norm for me.

This army isn't mobile. But it doesn't need to be. When's the last time you didn't get charged when you played as necrons? Your opponents are normally eager for the kill, and will get in range very shortly. The tomb spyder gives some close combat support, and helps with the WBB's, filling the role of your normal second lord for a third of the points.

I need to credit Stelek from YTTH. His 2k list inspired this, i just trimmed it a bit.

More warriors, you will phase out quite early, I believe.

phase out is number is 41, so phase out at 10. There's not many warriors, only the bare minimum, but there are Destroyers and Immortals.

This list needs a monolith and deceiver if you want to win games.

I disagree with the Mono and deceiver. The deceiver is amazing but IMO, more heavy destroyers in place of the Mono is MUCH better for the points. I know you have heard this a ton of times but good players will just ignor the Mono and with only 1, bringing one squad through isnt really worth it. Besides, just be good enough not to get into that situation. I suggest using a lot of scarabs to tie things up and tar the hell out of the other army while your gunline just moes everything down.

Max Immortals, Max Heavy destroyers, Max scarabs, and keep your warriors out of harms way.

Hope this helped.

Bad_Sheep: The only problem of using "lots" of scarabs, is that it gives you little to no room for regular destroyers, which are definately worthwile, especially as (max) 3 squads of scarabs can only hope to tie up a few units for a couple turns, while the destroyers add a lot to the "gunline" (S6 + 36" range).
Also yeah, Heavy Destroyers are definately one good way to go, however there are some times where taking a monolith instead can be more useful, it sort of depends who your going against.

But yeah, it looks like an interesting list, not too sure how well it will work (as, among other things, 6-man Immortal squads aren't as usefull as the full 10) but I guess the main thing you'll have to worry about is objectives, because with "only" 2 squads of warriors, if the enemy takes them out, you'll have no way to capture objectives, and basically lose 2/3 of the game types. That said, I still don't get why some people seem to think you need like 5 squads of warriors in 1500....

Yeah your right Eight Ball. It all depends on who your going up against. Its so hard to get that balance with necrons. You need some padding to take assaults (scarabs) but you dont want to take away to much of your gunline. Its a tough call. I personally think for necrons that scarabs should be an option for every warriors unit you take. I dont think scarabs should take a slot in the FoC but should be limited to however many war squads you take. For example. If you take 2 Warrior squads, you can take 2 scarab squads for no FoC slot. It just seems like every other army has that "meat shield" that either goes along with a troops choice or is a troops choice.

@OP:
I say play test the hell out of your list. It seems to have all the components it needs to run a decent necron army, but you may find that something is lacking or that you need more of something else. Just play test it as is and keep us updated on the results.

Thanks Bad Sheep and and Eight Ball, your post were legitimately helpful.

Objectives are going be be trouble, but when you normally phase out and lose anyway, holding objectives doesnt matter. And ya, if I could afford the full squads of Immortals, I would bring 30, but I think 12, along with the destroyers and h. destroyers, is a good balance.

And I completely agree with you about Scarabs not taking up FoC slots, but since that's not an option yet, we just have to keep making these tough calls. I could increase the size of the Scarab squad, but I don't know what I would take out for the points. Scarabs were definitely an after thought in this list, I had 48 points left, so I decided to take 4 Scarabs. The real hopes of this army list is to just blast everything away before it gets too close, so too many things being in assault could actually hurt me.
