I have a question about pursuit into fresh enemies.

The example is a unit of Dragon Princes make contact with black orc unit because of pursuit into fresh enemies. Because of positioning only half of the Dragon Princes can make contact. Combat is resolved in the next turn because the black orcs were not already in combat. Next turn the exposed half of Dragon Princes are charged by a new unit of black orcs. Do the exposed half Dragon Princes still receive their charge bonuses (lances) against the new charge?

My assumption was that they received the bonus against the new black orc charge, because that whole Dragon Princes unit is considered charging until the combat is resolved.

On page 43 it states- "In the following combat phase the pursuers will still count as charging.

This may result in both sides having charging units in the same fight, in which case the charging units on both side will get the normal bonuses for charging and will strike before units that have not charged. If charging models are fighting other models that count as charging, soldve their attacks in initiative order (roll if same initiative)."

Is there something that I overlooked that says they have to be in base contact at the beginning of the turn with all enemies to receive charge bonus with "Pursuit into fresh enemies"? Or does it state somewhere that different models in a unit can have different statuses (charging vs. non charging)?

Thanks

No because the second black orcs must have charged the princes in the following CC phase so they do no longer count as charging.

I would asy, both the dragon princes and the new black orcs receive charge bonuses, and will fight in initiative order. So lances would count against both units as they charged. the original black orcs would go last.

@ eldar own: the dragon princes overran into fresh enemies, therefore count as chargeing in the next cc phase (the same player turn in which the new black orcs charged). This means both the dragon princes and the new black orcs count as charging.

I don't really see the problem here, it's RAW.

I thought it would play out the way that Virtruvian stated also. With the DP's and the new black orcs both counting as charged. My friend had some concern over this because, he thought that because the new orcs were not part of the original "pursuit" contact, that the models in base contact with the new black orcs should not get the bonuses.

Even if he would have had a "pursuit move" with the new black orcs into my DP's, there isnt anything stating that it takes priority or cancels out the orignial pursuit charge of my DP's. We would both still receive the charge bonus for that turn.

Thanks

As noted, the rule is nice and clear in this edition. Both sides count as charging, with all applicable bonuses.

Opposing units which BOTH count as charging will resolve their attacks in initiative order. Good for the elves, in this situation.

I also agree with Vitruvian. The DP's count as charging as do the new unit of black orks. They will fight in initiative order.
