I was just wondering if anybody had any views on taking a Sybarite W/Agonizer in their DL warrior (not raider) squads, it costs an extra 26 points, but it's cheap and I think it really adds a level of depth to the squad. Any thoughts?

"Nuts!"

Not worth it. The other DE warriors in the squad add nothing in assault, really, so you'll still be winning against weak squads (like line guard squads) and losing against tougher stuff. That 26 points (multiplied by multiple squads) is better spent on more guns or melee specialists.

The sybarite with an agonizer is a pretty tough opponent himself though, he gets 4 attacks on the charge. The rest of the squad is pretty weak in assault though. The sybarite armed like this can probably kill a couple marines before they attack, though a warrior squad isn't likely to survive being charged by about anything. Sometimes i throw them on but recently i haven't been. Probably only worth it once you've filled up your force org (which doesn't take all that many points to do with DE) but i do go back and forth on this. If you deploy a warrior squad out of a raider and are facing down tac marines then you are unlikely to destroy them in a round of shooting. And if you aren't in cover they will down you with bolter fire. In this case it is worth it because you can fire the splinter pistol, splinter cannon and blaster and then assault them instead of rapid firing the rifles. This way you still get your 5+ armor save. You lose out a little in attacks as the rifles have BS 4 and you will need a 4 to hit on CC though. The agonizer adds some punch in the alternative. If you can deploy in cover and shoot the marines that is the best bet. If the marines are in cover they will go first and you will lose out attacks as well. So it can be effective offensively but not that often. It gives the squad a little defense against assault though.

By DL squads does the OP mean Dark Lance squads? If this is the case I offer a hearty no to the question. There is little gain in burning so many points on a unit that is built to shoot and only shoot. If a squad with lances is charging or being charged it's probably already dead anyway, why make it a more expensive loss just to maybe garner a MEQ kill on the way out?

You can build fairly good assault Warrior/Raider squads and in those it might be worth adding an Agoniser - though I often just opt for the poisoned blade or adding a Haemy with Scissorhands instead.

Litsen to Thor.... He has a beard.

oh and he also knows what he is talking about.

For my two cents I would take a Haemy with distructor for 15 points more.

The beard does give me knowledge above and beyond that of mere mortal men.

Also - good gravy, Clthomps, you mean to tell me eventually I will be "promoted" from a Ravager commander to a Hellion!?!

Yeah, that's upward mobility in the ranks.
