A fairly simple question, if I use one of the icons to affect Army-wide, can I use a personal icon to stack on top of that?

For example.

I use an Icon Bearer of Tzeentch for a 5+ Invulnerable. Can I then use a Personal Icon on my Chaos Lord to further stack that to a 4+ Invulnerable for my Chaos Lord?

Thanks .

What?
There is no army-wide icon.
Only units get Icons of the Gods. These icons only affect the unit and not Independent Characters joined.

The Chaos Lord can take a personal icon, but it does something the Icon of the Gods does, but it does not confer any bonuses like it.
Instead the Lord takes his own marks that only affect him.

Simple Answer: there is no stacking of Icons.

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

I think you are misunderstanding how the icons work. An Icon Bearer only gives that icons power to his unit not your entire army. The only way for what you are trying to say to work is if you give a squad of chaos space marines a Tzeentch icon bearer then stick your Chaos Lord into that squad of chaos marines.

But i'm pretty sure independent characters can't get the effects of the icon bearer. And doesn't the mark of Tzeentch already give Lords and other HQs a 4+ invulnerable anyway? I dont have the codex in front of me so i am not sure.

Edit: dang Sanctjud beat me to it. I type too dang slow.

Of all the mistakes you have made, the best are yet to come.

I got the feeling I was, interesting.

I think the current CSM codex is a little vague on the gods for this sort of thing.

Also, I am unclear on the rules of using more than one icon.

If I have two units of ten marines, do they both have to have the same icon? Or can I mix and match?

What do you mean by 'mix and match'?

They are two individual units, they don't do anything that actually changes the squad numbers in-game.

By mix and match I mean giving one the Icon of Tzeentch and the other of, say Slaanesh.

I'm guessing that's not allowed. But I can't make hide nor hair of Gods in the Codex, so I just thought I'd clarify.

Under the couch

There is no requirement to have all squads with the same icon.

Nor are there God-specific army builds in this codex. You can mix and match your army pretty much however you like.

You can have 4 CSM squads.
One with IoS, One with IoK, One With IoN, One with IoT...there are no restrictions any more.

The only restrictions are only of your own.
