I hate the current tyrant guard and want to use something bigger and meaner looking. What do you guys think of the idea of 3rd edition "grinning" 'fex (the ones released right before the plastic one) being used as tyrant guard? They're bigger, they look like they could block a shot for a tyrant, and I happen to like the models. Too confusing? What base size should I use?

Went digging through my old posts, and guess what? I've been hating on mat ward since before it was cool

if you make something bigger than the GW tyrant guard, expect some complaints from opponents re LOS and cover.

Personally I'd convert something using the plastic Warriors, the forthcoming plastic Raveners, and some greenstuff extended carapaces. In fact I'll be doing exactly that in January presuming I like the new tyrant guard rules.

The guard and tyrant form a unit, so if the tyrant is with the guard, it can't be targeted anyway. Plus, with TLOS, people can shoot thorough the legs anyway.

If enough people post in agreement, though, I probably won't bother.

The old carnifex was much, much larger than the current Tyrant Guard (like well over double its size) so I'd imagine people having issues with that, I know I would.

From a modelling perspective it sounds neat though!

The fex would cause issues as said.
But if you want to add a really good model and around the same height, do what im doing.

Ill be buying the origional tyrant models and changing thier weps about.
They look better, but they may not be too cheap.
However, the new guard aint that bad, just off balance

Suffused with the dying memories of Sanguinus, the warriors of the Death Company seek only one thing: death in battle fighting against the enemies of the Emperor.
