These are the pics of a project I just put together. Its an 18" by 18" water feature with some low hills and trails running throughout. I'm going to be posting some more info on it at my website Red Dragon Terrain
This is the first step, with the trails and hills carved out and glued onto the styrene base

Next I covered the piece with brown paint and terrain goop similarly coloured

Then I added the ground textures and water material, leaving me with this...

And close up...

That's an awesome idea. I never thought of making a normal, movable terrain piece have a water feature crossed with paths like that. Mostly you just see segmented river tiles that you can lay out.

Two things I'd do differently, if I were to try something like this: 1) leave a bit more edge, possibly tapering down a bit, so there isn't a mysterious earthen lip holding in all that water and 2) avoid solid light blue water. I can't tell if you used water effects, epoxy, or just some gloss varnish, but I think a bit more variety of color would help regardless, especially the greens and brown you're far more likely to actually find in standing pools. Especially if you use water effects, as many can be tinted with inks or even plain old acrylic paints to give a pretty natural look. The ground looks so good, I just hate to see it flooded with smurf blood.

Truly a cool project. And well executed aswell but as said before try change the color of the water to some brown or green tones. but if your happy with it keep it.

Good points guys, I agree with both. The colour is off for what I wanted, and I could have transitioned the edge better.

It seems that you wanted the piece to blend in to the board but it sticks out there kinda bad. =(

The water is a little too blue for the small pools you have. You may want your next project to have a more brackish look to it. Tall grass next to the water, lilipads, etc.
