While waiting for the new 'Nid codex and models, I decided to start a CSM army (Battleforce, Termies, Khorne Lord, etc)

I don't like the Chaos Dreadnought model...it doesn't really look that Chaos to me. So I bought an AoBR Dread on Ebay with the thought of converting it. Now, I'm positive that more than a few of you conversion masters have done this conversion. I'd appreciate some advice on the steps I need to take to turn it into an acceptable Chaos Dread. I don't want to Nurgle it, and I do have a spare CSM tank sprue, so any suggestions will be much appreciated.

make it spikey dark and bloody, barbed wire and rust and would be cool if you left the sarcophagus open too an put a nasty mutated undead corpse in it... and giv it very choppy weapons covered with blood...lots of blood BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD

Well theres a few thing you can do. Using the chaos accesory sprue is a start. I would recommend chossing a god or a legion to base it off of first then go from there. I have seen people convert regular dreads into venerables by adding on the terminator body front half, so you can mount an actual helmet instead of the flat panel. Get a chaos termi body and add in a helm. Another idea is to take off that face panel and make a demon of some sort coming out that looks to be part of the dread (looks to be possessed). Take the CCW and add claws or even make it holding a weapon. I kind of did that with a ven and ironclad conversion (pics in gallery). I would reccomend browsing the gallery here on dakkdakka to give you inspiration. Good luck with the modeling

I finally got around to converting my AoBR dreadnought on saturday. This is the result (sorry for the horrible quality off a phone, I just took it now):

Basically I:

-Carved off the skull & wings on the cockpit, the skulls on the sides of the front armour to make room for the wings, and the banner on his left leg.
-Chopped up the right leg in a few places, made some rock molds, and greenstuffed the rest
-Chopped the dreadnought at the waist to turn him. Green stuffed the gap.
-Chopped the CCW arm off, used some plasticard to go overtop the inside of the arm (the starter set dreads dont have the inside of their arms covered), then greenstuffed the arm into a more dynamic pose.
-Individually cut off spikes from the chaos vehicle sprue and glued them on (so there's no bar sticking up at the bases)
-The claw is just the AoBR CCW with some attached claw/spike things from the Nid Carnifex sprues.
-Chopped off the multimelta and replaced it with a Plasma Cannon from a SM devastator box
-Chopped the wings off one of the Night Lords helmets, and used a skull from the Chaos vehicle sprues to make the insignia.

EDIT: Another angle to get an idea (This pic is even worse quality haha)....

honestly I like it all around just for some reason I feel the wings should be higher up or something either or cool stuff.

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House!

I love the model!

And you are probably thinking the wings need to be up for the same reason on the CSM with their helmets im guessing?

This is good.... isn't it?
