Small base:

-Easier to hide.
-If bunched together, more things under template.
-Smaller footprint.
-Slightly safer Deepstrikes.

Large base:

-Harder to hide.
-Less guys hit by templates.
-Larger footprint, can block more space than normal.
-Less Safer Deepstrikes.

I prefer larger bases...but generally you base on what you get with the box.
If you get 2 from Forge World...then it's your choice between Easier Hiding and Blocking more space.

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

In aesthetic purposes, the larger bases allow you to add more personalisation to the model. The large suface area also prevents the models tipping over, which reduces the risk of your models breaking.
