Lasguns in the few month's I've played with my IG seem alot deadlier then everyone think's. Let's say five termie deepstrike. 20+ Guardsmen shoot at them and 9 wound. And the person rolls a few 's. Now all in all I think my Battle Cannon and plasma cannon have dropped more thing's but lasgun's are scary.

I've sold so many armies. :(

Unless, of course, the deepstriking termies think to shoot before ending their turn. then you have a pile of dead guardsmen.

Well let's see.. Assualt cannon is 4 shot's strombolters 2x4= 8 so 12 shot's. 12 guardsmen dead out of a 65 man platoon.
At best respectively.

Weight of fire...nothing new here.
Roll a bucket of dice, anything with a Toughness value will die (T7 aside if we are only talking about str 3).

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

Not to mention there are probably a lot more things shooting at the guardsmen then just the terminators. You probably have also a tac squad or 2, plus armor, and probably an assault coming at you.

Still, weight of fire is a useful, and potentially deadly, tactic.

If I give you a cookie, will you go away? If I give you the bag, will you go far, far away?

This is about as far from a new idea as you can get. If something is only going to die on the roll of a 1 no matter what weapon you use, then massing fire from the weapons you have the most have is one of the best tactics to use.

20+ Guardsmen shoot. Let's say they're in rapid fire range.

40 shots, 20 hits. 10 wounds. About 2 dead terminators. Not bad, but not really great either.

Well just talking from expirience a combined squad of 30 guardsmen with a succesefull issue of the first rank fire second rank fire command at 12 inch range can destroy ghazkhul and his retinue.

When I saw the title, I immediately though of a transformer lasgun...

But yeah, anything with a toughness value will die to enough of anything.

The Seraphs of Thunder: a homebrew, almost entirely converted successor Deathwing. And also some Orks. And whatever else I have lying around.

I am glad most people underestimate the power of volume fire, as it may make them do something rash, then irritated as their expensive models starting failing armor saves...

50 man blob squad has 45 lasguns. Assume they're all in rapid fire range (90 shots) and using FRFSRF (135) add the sergeants' pistols (140 shots total).

Fire against a marines tactical squad: 70 hits, 23.33 wounds, so the squad fails around 7-8 wounds. Not at all bad, but not overwhelming, when you consider what 250 points worth of dedicated fire support can do. A 190 point LRBT for instance should kill more marines than that. I'd still put a lot of my trust in special and heavy weapons, they're worth more than the lost lasgun shots.

I do think lasguns are great against light infantry, like small tyranids, orks etc - but these things also tend to be great at killing guardsmen.

Massed lasguns may kill troops, but always, always upgrade weapons whenever and wherever possible, because individual lasguns are ineffective.
