Hi, probably a dumb question but whatever...

When it says someone "may exchange his laspistol and/or close-combat weapon for:", and then goes on to list options, may I end up with more weapons than I started? For instance the Company Commander has a Laspistol and a Close-combat weapon; could he exchange those for a Boltgun, Bolt pistol, and a Power fist, as long as all the points were paid?

Tx in advance...

No

You Replace one of those options for another.

(CCW for Powerfist, Laspistol for Bolt-pistol, Laspistol for Power Weapon etc)

You may only purchase 2 items since you can only replace 2 items

There are two and a half options for equipping Command squads (Whom officers reside in).

A) Quadruple useful special weapons (I.e melta/plasma)

B) Heavy weapon team (Autocannon/Lascannon) and
B.1) Vox, regimental standard
B.2) 2x cheaper special weapons (Ideally grenade launchers.

Use a) for the aggressive transproted command squad, generally to support/used with other aggressive mounted shooty infantry.

Use b) for troop support, use b.1) for the company command squad, to support that infantry platoon nearby & use b.2) as a decent cheap way to equip a platoon command squad. Imagine their weapon load-out as a better-than-shuriken-cannon mini-support team, my point is don't under-estimate BiD and krak rounds.

When it comes to the officer himself, I wonder what you guys prefer? I think about giving him a plasmapistol, just to make use of his bf. There's no way he would ever see cc or survive it.

A is for Platoon Commands, IMO. Managed to pull off a driveby with four flamers on an Outflanking unit of Scorpions last night. Seven hit by the template, times four. Yeah, lotsa dead Scorps.
For my HQ command I prefer B and B1.

I typically used to keep commands cheap. Bolt pistol and power weapon, with the latter being optional. These days, however, I field a WYSIWYG command squad of squats, which forces me into a power fist + bolter combo, which is somewhat more extravagant, but I'll take the points hit if it means being able to use those lovely bearded gits.

The supply does not get to make the demands.

I always leave my commander bare - "If I wanted effective units, I'd play SM."

My typical command squad is CCS + Lascannon + Vox + Chimera: 130 points. Cheap, survivable in the chimera, can give orders well to my blob of 30 Guardsmen with lascannons, and has a BS4 lascannon of their own to throw in support of the infantry. 2k points I put a MoO in as well.

If I were to make a plasma squad, then I'd consider putting a plasma pistol on the commander for 9(!) plasma shots in rapid fire range. Otherwise, nothing.
