Hey guys, I recently posted up a 1000 point Dark Eldar army list to start playing with, however in my area people are less willing to play in smaller sized games, so I am back to revamp my list and push it up to 1500 points in the hope to get some action!

Dracon;
w/ Combat Drugs, Tormentor Helm, Shadowfield, Punisher, Splinter Pistol
[111]

7 Wyches;
w/ WWs and Plasma Gs, Succubus with Agoniser - In a Raider
[174]

8 Wyches;
w/ WWs and Plasma Gs, Succubus with Agoniser - In a Raider
[187]

Warrior Squad;
10 Warriors with 2 DLs
[100]

Raider Squad;
9 Warriors with Sybarite, Splinter cannon and Blaster - In a Raider
[148]

Raider Squad;
5 Warriors with a DL - In a Raider
[105]

Raider Squad;
5 Warriors with a DL - In a Raider
[105]

Raider Squad;
5 Warriors with a DL - In a Raider
[105]

[105]

Ravager;
w/ 3 Dis.
[120]

Ravager;
w/ 3 Dis
[120]

= [1500]

C&C and Feedback would be really appreciated - I am trying to make quite a competitive list that is fun to play but will keep other players on their toes!

By fun to play do you mean fun for you or fun for your opponent? If fun for your opponent I will note that spam (aka multiple identical units) appears to be one of the easiest things to get your opponent to start getting grumpy at you. That said - I've yet to find someone who can play me more then three times with DE without them starting to accuse the entire army of being cheesy - so it might just be DE in general.

Overall the list is basic and encapsulates DE pretty well. My only real issue is that 9 man Raider gunboat squad - I can't figure out what it's there for.

If you're looking to use it as a gunboat you really need to be running at least two gunboats and not just one random one, and you can save points by not taking the Sybarite (as without extra wargear he's just a more expensive warrior really). If you're looking to use it as a tertiary assault option/counter charge unit then you need to equip the Sybarite with, at the very least, some poisoned blades. Finally, if you're going to use it as a mobile shield to help block and run cover for your Wyche boats on their assault run then I don't understand why you're bothering to pay for 9 warriors when a basic 5 would do you just as well (and, again, no need for the Sybarite)

In that case, would downgrading the 9 man gunboat to a 5 man squad, with single blaster, and then using the spare points to upgrade the Dracon either wargear wise or to an Archon be a better idea?

I was reluctant to upgrade to an Archon as I had a feeling people would underestimate the Dracon and maybe it wouldn't be such a huge fire magnet, and people might try and whittle down my other flying cardboard, and I felt as though the HQ choice was already enough of a point sink (although worth it).

Do you have any suggestions for using the spare 48 points? I am even flexible to get rid of the 10 man sniper squad if it would free up some points, or perhaps scrap the blaster gunboat as well freeing up around 250 points. Thanks for the feedback the first time, any more is appreciated!

My advice of what to buy would depend on what strategy you are hoping to use. As I mentioned the gunboat doesn't seem to have a clear purpose - if you can tell me what you envisioned for it I and others could probably be more helpful in telling you potentially better ways to accomplish your goal.

As a general note, I will say that to save points on a gunboat you never really want to give up the splinter cannon - those things are pretty sweet for poking holes in GEQ and Ork mobs. My gunboats always run both the blaster and splinter cannon upgrades.

Initially I was planning to use the Gunboat as support for the 2 Wych units, firstly so that there isnt just 2 advancing Raiders, and secondly to either have a pot shot at a transport or try and whittle down a large GEQ units before Wyches charge to ensure they win combat. Once the Wyches hit enemy lines it then would become dispensable to possibly try and tie up small units that are wanting to move away. I'm now thinking this could also be achieved with a small Wych squad with 2 Blasters, it would be less effective against GEQ in the shooting phase but would be a supporting assault unit as well.

As an example;

A 7 woman Wych unit with WWs, Plasma Gs, 2 Blasters, and Succubus with Agoniser - In a Raider
[184]

Or

A 5 Woman Wych Unit with WWs, Haywire Grenades and 2 Blasters - In a Raider
[140]

Not sure if the Haywire Gs would just be a total waste and make the unit too single purpose, with so many dark lances rolling about I suppose it wouldn't be ideal to rely on a small unit like this for anti-armour but on the other hand it provides me with an extra option to maybe get my opponents attention if they start primarily targeing my dark lances. Let me know what you think!

Although running 3 Wych squads and 3 Ravagers will be a sure way to lose friends fast, haha. - It would be worth it to get a little appreciation back from the community for Dark Eldar!

To be honest I always run two blasters in all my Wych squads. Yeah, you lose 2 additional Str 3 non-power weapon attacks in order to gain 2 Str 8 Ap 2 assault guns but...wait, what's the negative side?

If you're planning to use the gunboat as interference I would probably advocate dropping its crew to 5 warriors with blaster and splinter cannon and using the spare points to buy blasters for both of your Wych squads.

The list is looking pretty good.

I personally feel that at 1500 3 Wych squads is more Wyches then you need and might advocate dropping a squad to take more Warriors and lances. However, if you want to be a bit more assault oriented this will put you in a good place.

I was thinking that the triple Wyches might be overdoing it but I'm going to stick with it for now and play the list for abit against a range of armies and see if it works out for me, If not I'll be back to the drawing board trying something else.

I appreciate all the feedback Thor, so thank you!
