The Air Pie-Rats of Dark Eldar

I have been working on a Space Skaven Army off an on for years now. The basic premise is some how some Skaven found an opening to a Web-Way-Portal and when though. After snaking on the surprised Dark Eldar they just continued there raiding with there stuff.
I finally figured out how to do it, the Dark Eldar. I have the Skaven figures for it. All I am missing is the “Raiders” and the “Surfboard”, but a large purchase of the Hobgoblin should solve that. I stole the name Pie-Rats from an old Richard Scary book and am planning using Tail Spin as the basis of the main look. I have never played a DE list, but it gives me the feel with all of the “Skimmers”. I went with the Wych Cult because I wanted them armed with Pistol and/or Cutlass.

Here is the list currently. I am open to suggestions. I mostly want to tweak [or is that squeak] the Wargear, I like the unit composition.

Scourges with dark lances! Hellions!!! It burnz!!!!!

Honestly, as far as an effective, competitive build, you're going to need a lot more than "to tweak [or is that squeak] the Wargear"...probably why you haven't gotten much feedback.

If you're just going for a theme and effectiveness be damned, then you're fine, I guess. Heck, throw in some rat-ogres and call them talos.

I do not do the bad puns at this hour of the evening.

Okay, so you like your unit composition and you want discussion on wargear? I can do that...

Okay, the first thing I see when I look at your list is your Webway Portals. Webway Portals are awesome because they allow your h2h units to get up in your opponent's face without being shot up. You're also running three of them, that's ballsy in a 1500 point build but will pretty much assure that you can get the portals out. Okay, so for your portal carriers you have your assault units and...

Wait, what? Looking at your list you have three assault units - these are the units that optimally should be inside the Webway. Instead I guess you have the Scourges and the Hellions in the Webway? Ah...I hate to sound like a dick, but do you understand what the Webway wargear even does? It almost looks like you think it will allow the Wyches to deepstrike or something - and this is very much not the case. (oh wait, gawds, I just noticed, the Scourges have a Webway Portal as well, WTF?).

Other then the WWP the Wych squads are reasonably equipped (though going in with the bare minimum of two troop choices seems unwise strategically) though I think trusting in poisoned blades is gutsy and you should probably invest in some sort of power weapon (Agoniser being optimal). I'm not a big fan of how you equipped your Hellions. Argueably if those losers have any "strength" it's as an assault unit and with that in mind I submit the Succubus should probably have a power weapon of some stripe to help them cut through MEQ. Let's be honest, a bunch of Str 4 attacks off the charge is noce, but it's hardly unit shattering. Also, the Scourges...I don't get where you're going with the Sybarite. He sort of looks like he's decked out for h2h combat, and the rest of his squad most assuredly wants nothing to do with that. Also, the hell mask is totally useless on a non-IC character (as outlined in the DE FAQ) I'd certainly suggest at least dropping that and investing the points elsewhere.

Also, just as another general list idea - you're really hurting for anti-mech, and mech is big right now. I'd really suggest re-reading WWP's description and using some of those points to help you invest in some more useful tools and even additional units for your army.

Edit - oh yeah, and I should probably mention, gruesome talismans are cool and all. But rules wise they accomplish absolutely noting in 5th edition. I'd save the points.

It's been a long time since I've played DE, but I remember that no-one should ever, ever take hellions or scourges.

You've loaded all your squad leaders with semi-useless upgrades. What's with the Webway portals? Don't those suckers cost 50 pts apiece? And all but one of your units have them! If the rules are how I remember, doesn't that invalidate the point?

Here's what I remember of the rules of how to make a DE wych cult.

1. Take 3 ravagers. This is actually one of the laws god handed to Moses, there just wasn't space on the tablets. Thou shalt take 3 ravagers. They are the only good thing in the heavy support section.

2. Wych squads. They need wych weapons and 2 blasters. The succubus should have an agoniser. That's it I believe (although I'm pretty sure you can buy plasma grenades for the succubus and not the squad, but it will effect the whole unit. If so, that's worth it.) Take a raider.

3. Other stuff, I believe minimum sized reaver squads with maximum special weapons are worth it (no succubus) apart from that I'd stick to options 1-2, you should be able to fill the whole list.

Sorry to sound harsh or crush your ideas - but the DE codex is very old and parts are outdated. Some options remain cheap and effective against more modern rules and units. Most things weren't competitive when they first appeared and got even worse by comparison. Consequently, a tiny fraction of the units, weapons and wargear in the book is actually useful. Anything else can be laughed at by people with competently-built armies from current codexes.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Oh yeah, just do a search on this army lists forum - seems like most people still playing DE (especially on this site) are fairly hardcore players who enjoy bringing out something their opponents are unlikely to have seen before, so the lists that pop up here should be pretty lean&mean. Also, the one thing DE can do cheaply and effectively is put skimmers+dark lances/disintegrators on the table. Concentrate on getting as many of these as possible in your army - it will hurt a bit in KP missions, but it's your best chance overall.

You gave your Wyches wyche weapons and are building a Wyche cult - I'm pretty sure you have the most recent codex. Just check the front cover and if you have this big 'ol 2nd edition white stamp on it then you have th emost recent codex. There's a lot in our recent codex that doesn't work in 5th edition though, so that's just something you'll have to learn to adjust for till 2068 when we get our new codex.
