As per the title, really. I have 15 marines and a Terminator Chaplain at the moment, and am getting the AoBR set for christmas. As this is my first army, I'm looking to use these as the backbone, and not have too many redundant models from the set, to minimise cost.

So far, I have a 750 point list to use until I get an Emperor's Champion, which is as follows:

HQ
Marshal with Power Weapon and Bolter - 96 pts (AoBR)

Troops
10 Initiates with Power Weapon and Meltagun - 180 pts (Tactial Squad, All have Chainswords and Boltpistols)

10 Initiates with Missile Launcher and Plasma Gun - 176 (AoBR Marines, with one changed out for a Plasma Gun marine I have now)

5 Initiates with Missile Launcher and Plasma Gun - 96 pts (A squad I have the parts for now)

Elites
5 Terminators - 200 pts (straight from the AoBR set)

Total: 748 pts

I realise that there's probably a lot of things I've overlooked or missed off, so please throw any criticism you want at this list.

Thanks,

Raptorkid

Edit: Forgot to mention that I left the AoBR dreadnought out on purpose, but would prefer to be able to use it.

Thanks again,

Raptorkid

First off, get yourself that Emperor's Champion. You have to take him... but he's well worth it.

Have you decided if you'll be going for a Footslogging or a Mechanized list? Or something else?

Yeah, I'll probably get him soon after christmas. I just want to get the marines I have painted.

As for tactics, I'd prefer a footslogging army, simply because I don't like using vehicles. Besides, we only have a small play area, so I wouldn't get much benefit from them.

I personally run a Mechanized list, but here are popular thoughts on Footsloggers... or as some call it... Black Tide lists.

Chaplains are good for footsloggers as they make the attached squad Fearless. Cenobyte Servitors can add Zeal distance as well. Marshals are good as well because of Rites of Battle and LD10.

Team three Dreadnaughts up with three 20-man Crusader squads. That setup is reportedly very effective.

Landspeeders and/or Assault Squads would be good against more mobile opponents.

Drop the heavy weapons from your Crusader Squads. If you're not moving to shoot these weapons, you're not playing right. Instead stick with Powerfists and Meltaguns and leave the long range anti tank to the dreads and fast attacks.

Those are some initial thoughts. Check out bolterandchainsword.com for good BT info.

I can't agree more with bigdunc, I would suggest go or a triple dreads, triple max crusader squads, and triple melta-speeders.

this will give you quite a bit of strength and capabilities while keeping away from vehicles, if you want to go and get yourself one more box of terminators and magnetize the options that wouldn't be a bad move either.

also thebolterandchainsword.com is a great resource for all of your power armour needs, big and I are on there often so just drop us a line when you come over!

You may use anything I post, just remember to give me credit if used somewhere else.
