I just hate how fragile gw's flight stands are (and how limited they are in height) and I'm curious about any decent alternatives.
Any suggestions?

You could just replace the plastic pole with a metal one. Thats what i did with my battle fleet gothic models after they kept snapping off

I just cut up a metal hanger they fit perfectly in the slots and you can just stab em through a GW base and they stay firm.

I've used brass rods with a number of models, but there are some that I definitely want a clear flight stand for.
Has anyone here tried these: http://www.litkoaero.com/page/LAI/CTGY/AFS ?

The Back2base-ix flight stands are awesome - plus come with two magnets so fitting them to models is not a really big issue.

Head to McMaster-Carr and grab some clear Acrylic rod. You'll have to drill holes but it's cheap.

Those Litko bases look like a suitable replacement for G-Dubbs' flying stands. If they only made Idustrial Towers or Space Corridors...

I checked out the back2base-ix flying stands and they look really nice. I like that they come with magnets already in place.
Down side, though, is the price. $10-12.95 is way to pricey for some bases, in my opinion. Just to do one full Jetbike squad, it would cost me around $140 bucks after shipping! Forget trying to do a Saim-Hann army. I just build my own replacements. All it takes in an 1/8" drill bit, some dowel rod and magnets. For under $30 I could build my own magnetized bases for an entire Apoc. army. Mine aren't clear, but I prime mine black anyway. If I really wanted clear bases, I would get some acrylic rod.

Hmmm, I played Necrons very recently, and I kind of want some now. And I want lots of destroyers, so thanks for posting that.
