Hi.
A friend of mine decided to lure his brother into Warmachine by giving him a Khador Battlegroup as a Christmas present. The trick is, that he forced me to paint the Battlegroup in two weeks...
Well, to my and his surprise, I got the job done in time. I have painted a lot of stuff for him before and this is probably the first time I sticked to the deadline. I apologize for the quality of pictures. I normally take pictures in daylight, but I haven't seen any in couple of days. Poor lamp + semi-gloss varnish isn't quite the optimal setup for taking pictures, but will have to do for now.

Nice, clean, and simple. The occasional paint chip keeps it from being too boring. I like what the semi-gloss varnish does with the armor plates, too (at least, as far as I can tell from pics in that specific lighting).

Bases are from MicroArt studios. Kommander Sorscha has regular 30mm WRound base, Warjacks have 40mm base sunked into normal 50mm plastic base. I have used some 50mm WRound bases before, but thought that they had too much stuff on them.
I have a feeling that I may end up painting more red Warjacks in the future (looking forward to Behemoth, at least). I didn't volunteer for any infantry, though, because I don't really like Privateer Press infantry models.

That's a good job. I would use a wash (Baal Red to minimize blending or Devlan Mud to get dark shadows) to get some of the details to pop especially in Sorchas armour. The washes will just add enough shadows to make it look better IMO. If it darkens the red too much, an drybrush highlight of red would finish off the work cleanly.

Thanks for the comments. I'll quote my own reply from PP forums, which should deal with red and gloss:
Since I hadn't painted any Khador before and didn't have any original ideas, I decided to stick with the "official" colour scheme with few minor changes. The red is ArmyPainter Pure Red spray followed by couple of light coats of Khador Red Base. It is then given a highlight of Citadel Macharius Orange (similar to Khador Red Highlight, I guess?) before adding a light coat of Citadel Baal Red Wash. I wanted the red to glow a bit, so I gave it a coat of satin varnish (ie. between matt and gloss). I believe that matt varnish would have looked better in the pics, though.
I originally thought of giving these a light coat of ArmyPainter Strong tone "dip" as I do with most of my models. It would have added some depth where it is needed, but I was too happy with the shade of red (in real life - can't say the same for pics) and didn't want to interfere with anymore.
The Khador are now on their way to the new owner. And in exhange, a squad of Damned Marines with Skulls is on its way to me

Honestly good job. I was a little weary opening the thread as a lot of people really don't spend solid time on their Warmachine models but all around nice.

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House! |
