I would like to make an IG regiment that is alot more unique, though using the current minis. Though I do not know who to make. The list is from Lexicanum, in the IG regiment lists, any one of those would be nice, but I want ONE regiment to stick with, as I want a unique, fluffy army.

There was one detachment of Imperial Guard that wore mirrored armor to reflect lasgun fire. I can't remember the exact name right now, but an army of shiny guardsmen would certainly be unique.
You could also do a forge world IG force, lots of bionic conversions and maybe some custom-built models like replacing ogryns with AdMech skitarii.

Vitrian Dragoons are what dementedwombat is talking about.
And well...
If you want "alot more unique, though using the current minis"?
You're pretty much SOL. Unless you want to go into Forge World's stuff.

Well, I will be using Greenstuff, copper wire, copper pellet things, plastic rod (when I find it) and maybe some pieces from the war store, or Pig Iron.
I think I may do a forgeworld army, though I want to do a 'Rifles' regiment, any thoughts on that?

If you want to do a "rifles" regiment, then Krieg would be your best bet.
If you want a unique, well-unified force--screw Pig Iron and stick with EXCLUSIVELY Krieg items.
That's really all I can say. Unified themes and line infantry do not lend themselves well towards irregular equipment.

Thanks for the name. The Vitrian Dragoons are a Heavy Infantry regiment, especially fond of Plasma Guns. Apparently the reflectivity of their armor can produce a rudimentary stealth effect. Could see them as being a ambush-type army designed to take out heavily armored or vehicle heavy armies.
Not really what you're looking for, but I might as well give you all the details.

Well no...
The way the Vitrians were described in the "First & Only" where they appeared:
They wear a full coat of what is called "Vitrian Mail", which also includes a full faced helmet concealing their features.
What makes this unique?
The Vitrian Mail is dual purpose. On the side that is most commonly spotted--it is a polished, mirror smooth shine of glassy quality. It's also highly conductive, electricity-wise.
But the reverse side of the coat?
Dulled and worn, and almost impossible to spot.

Shows what I know. I've never read the books, just repeating what Lexicanum told me.
" http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Vitrian_Dragoons" Might want to fix it if it's that far off.

Now, when we are talking about armours and the such, I was thinking about dementedwombat said, and would like to make it as if they are prepared to go out alone, like they have all the supplies they need.

Considering the upcoming Tyranid's stuff, a force modeled after the guys from Aliens would match. Cadians would work best and are cheap, this would be an easy but neat conversion. (funny too)

Four scholars at Oxford were making their way down the street, and happened to see a group of ladies of the evening. “What’s this?” said the first. “A jam of tarts?” “Nay,” said the second, “an essay of Trollope’s.” “Rather, a flourish of strumpets,” advanced the third. “No, gentlemen,” concluded the last. “Here we have an anthology of pros.” |

There you go, now you're thinkin'.
So you want them to look like veterans--lots of gear strapped on, lots of webbing, etc?
You really don't need to go too far afield then. You'd be able to do that using just the Cadian kits, or going so far as to add in the Respirator/Equipment kits from FW.
The best thing to remember for ideas like this though?
DO NOT
DO NOT BUY ANYTHING
DO NOT BUY ANYTHING UNTIL YOU HAVE FULLY PLANNED IT OUT, FROM START TO FINISH.
I mean this in the most acceptable and nice way. A Guard army is a task that takes a lot out of you, especially if you want a nice, coherent force that will be an impressive sight on the tabletop.
To give you an idea as to planning though?
I've had my Elysian 245th "Strike" Detachment planned for almost two years now. I've got the costs mapped out, I know exactly what models I need, I know exactly how many models/respirator kits will be involved, etc.
If you can--shanghai some friends who're into 40k or artwork into helping you plan things out. It makes it go by even faster, and lets you visualize everything more.

okay, for my plan, I think i will be going to an online bits store and getting some backpacks/gear to make them look like that, I will also probably get Empire Handguns from another site. I think shaving down the bulges on the helmet would work well, as well as taking off the part of the helm that covers the ears. now, I am a little stuck on what to do for the trenchcoat bottom, though I think Greenstuff would suffice. Conscripts will be Pig Iron Ferals with extra cadian heads put on, I saw this on a Tank crew that someone converted, and thought that it would work well. Giving everyone Bionics like replaced eyes/ legs and arms will be difficult, so if anyone knows where to get parts like that, then please tell.

It's hard to get a truly unique force using just the current kits. It would come down to the painting more than anything. If you've got copper wire and greenstuff, you could make a pretty cool Nurgle guard force. I remember once seeing someone in White Dwarf with an army where all the guardsmen were made from Brettonian men-at-arms torsos and heads, but with Cadian weapons. Mixing fantasy regiments with Imperial Guard weapons could turn up something pretty cool.

Yeah, I saw a pretty cool regiment of IG based off of a British Expeditionary force in WW1, here:
http://commissar.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=picpost&action=display&thread=2731
Thats where i got the idea. I wanted to make a rifle regiment using the Empire handgunners because it looks good.
UPDATE: I have mapped out the price for my starting force, It will be around 125.75. I am getting
1X Cadian battleforce
20X sets of Empire Handgun Support arms
8X sets of Empire handguns
40X Pig Iron Backpacks.
1X greenstuff
All of the Handgun stuff is coming from the Bitz Barn, if anyone has bought things from there, is it a good choice, or should I go somewhere else? Also, I could not find prices for extra Copper wire, as my Googlefu is weak. I will not be using any form of Copper pellets, as I don't want a studded army.
