Simple question, are forge world models officially sanctioned by GW?

Trade rules: lower rep trades ships 1st. - I ship within 2 business days, if it will be longer I will contact you & explain. - I will NOT lie on customs forms, it's a felony, do not ask me to mark sales as "gifts". Free shipping applies to contiguous US states.

No, it's not a simple question. Or, rather, it's not a simple answer.

What do you mean by "officially sanctioned"?

Sanctioned as in legal in say a GW Grand Tournament. Never played in one but I heard a TO talking about having to disqualify someone because he had used a forgeworld model that had an advantage over a GW counterpart.

He said the barrel was an inch longer than the GW counterpart on I think it was a Leman Russ variant and it constituted being "Modeled for advantage"

Could be he was just being a D-Bag but before I buy one I'd rather know.

Never heard of FW models being disallowed in Tourneys. FW rules, yes. Models, never.

I'm not quite sure what you're asking, but perhaps you should take a look at the brightly colored 'Games Workshop' logo that adorns the spines of Forge World's books and see if that answers your question.

Yes... otherwise they'd get their pants sued off.

+1 ... haven't heard of anyone allowing FW rules or point costs outside friendly games. Otherwise ... sure, +15 points for Dread Drop Pods as assault vehicles ... yay!

Given that the only models for several IG units are currently FW only (Hydra, manticore, medusa, griffin/gryphon and Vanquisher) or scratchbuilt, the TO would be cutting off his nose to spite his face.

Yes, I'm aware that the Griffin used to be a model GW made (and no doubt will rerelease in a plastic kit box in the future).

Barrel length is hardly relevant. Range and LOS are taken from the weapon MOUNTING, not the end of the barrel.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).

Only LOS is measured from the mounting. Range is measured from the muzzle. Page 56 of the BRB:

"When firing a vehicle's weapons, ranges are measured from the muzzle of the firing weapon, whilst line of sight is determined from the weapon's mounting point and along its barrel."

This question again?

What is allowed/disallowed at any tournament is determined by the tournament organizer. In the case of GW grand tournaments, the organizer is whomever is running the events department for that division.

So what is allowed/disallowed at a particular Grand Tournament in the past has varied. For example, for a long while the UKGTs weren't allowing any of the armies from the old 'Eye of Terror' codex, while the US Grand Tournaments continued to do so long after the codex was out of print by offering the army lists up as PDFs on their old US website.

But in general (AFAIK), Imperial Armor rules have never been allowed in any GW Grand Tournament, although Forgeworld models certainly have been allowed to represent general comparable codex entries.

There are some tournaments out there (such as Adepticon) that allow some form of the Imperial Armor rules, but in general most tournaments steer clear of the Imperial Armor rules. And I too have never heard of a tournament disallowing Forgeworld models for use to 'counts-as' comparable codex choices.

So whenever you have a question about what is 'sanctioned' in a 'tournament', remember the answer is: Whatever the tournament organizer wants. For example, I've played in tournaments that disallowed any MEQ army (Space Marines, Necrons, CSMs)...it was actually one of the more fun tournaments I've ever played in.
