Subject: A new Star Trek game?
|
 |

I was in a local hobby store today to buy a new copy of my fantasy warhammer rule book since someone stole mine...
Anyway, this guy told me that he heard that there is going to be a new Star Trek gaming system. He said that it would be similar to the old fashioned RPG but when it was time to play the fighting takes place on the tabletop.
It is an all inclusive game that would take weeks to complete a single campaign. So it can get as complex as fighting in P-ways on Star Ships like space hulk to Klingons vs Starfleet on the surface of a planet or in space.
Has anyone heard of this or is this guy hitting up some bad weed?

Never heard of it. Sounds like he confused the RPG and SFC.

I believe you are talking about the Star Trek version of the game Battlestations. In the current version of Battlestations, each player has a character in on board a starship. They may play a medic, pilot, engineer etc. There is a GM who puts the crew in a special situation. Piloting the ship in ship to ship combat along with boarding parties fighting in the corrodors of the ship can happen.
Gorilla Games makes the current Battlestations game and Amarillo Design Group will have them make a specific Star trek version from what I've heard.

I just realized that maybe he was thinking of the new Star Trek Online which is coming out in a month or so. You get to command a ship, pick bridge officers, and do away missions.

Is the Star Trak Table top game still being played out there?
If I remember, they used to sell the small ships and you used to play it in either the hex sheets, or on the talbetop. The game played a little rough, but those ships were really cool.
Star fleet battles, or Federation commander, if I remember correctly.
I put my preorder in and got a constitution class for my trouble.

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money. |

Star Fleet Battles. I'm not sure how much actual playtime it gets but it is still around. It is a good game but very very rules heavy and it takes a long time.
They made PC versions of it under the title Star Fleet Command. If you like tactical ship games where you micromanage one ship over controlling tons of ships it might be worth looking into and should be cheap. I would avoid SFC3 as it is the Next Gen setting and they dumbed down a whole lot of stuff. 4 shield facings instead of 6, weapons are crazy powerful while having fewer weapons overall.

Fasa also made a Star Trek game with the mini's as well as roll playing.
It was ok, and at least you could make your own Star Trek ships with the rules they gave you. Had lots of fun with them. Great mini's as well. They were really done well I thought.

Agies Grimm:The "Learn to play, bro" mentality is mostly just a way for someone to try to shame you by implying that their metaphorical nerd-wiener is bigger than yours. Which, ironically, I think nerds do even more vehemently than jocks.
Everything is made up and the points don't matter. 40K or Who's Line is it Anyway?
