Howdy folks - figured my 2nd post would end up in here (after the introductions). Got into roleplaying in a big way over the last 2 years, and it shows. Just wondering how much or how often other people roleplay...

Personally, I currently:

Earthdawn - Monday night (player)
WFRP - tuesday night (GM)
Dark Heresy - wednesday night (player)

However, sometime in the New Year I'll also be going back to an old WFRP campaign I was running for a few friends, which will take up my saturday.

So that's 4 roleplaying sessions a week in the New Year... anyone think thats too much?
I'm looking at bringing one of my WFRP groups to a close but not sure which - however whenever I put the idea forward it tends to get shouted down by severely disappointed players!

"A heathen, conceivably. But not, I hope, an unenlightened one."

Eeeeh, wargaming weren't like this back in my day!

Forever alone

I personally wouldn't get involved in more than two games at a time, because three is stretching it and four would be impossible to manage.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

As long as it's not taking over or interfering with other aspects of your life too much then I wouldn't worry.

I wish I had that much free time.. oh to be young again...

For me, I always say that real life takes priority over games, be they RP, Tabletop or Online, but apart from that, there is no limit.

I used to play on a Neverwinter Nights Persistent World. I played almost every day, for up to several hours. Sometimes I could hit 6-7 hours in a day. BUT, I went to real-life parties even if I really wanted to stay home and take part in a DM event because I realised the danger of becoming a slave to the computer.

I think tabletop RP is a bit different anyway, as you are mixing with real people, which is far healthier than Online (even though I knew many fellow players due to meeting in real life).

I would suggest, however, that 2 sessions of RP, plus a session of poker and a night out bowling would be a more rounded way to spend your week...

I currently run at 4 days per month. That's one saturday and three sundays. My roleplaying (cyberpunk) is the saturday combined with warmachine or infinity (club meet, 8 hours or so all up they play a variety of games) the sundays are pretty much GW games only. 40k, necromunda or spacehulk. This club doesn't do non-GW games.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).

All comes down to whether you're still engaging in other social activities and (hopefully) some kind of exercise/athletic pursuit, for health reasons as well as simple variety.

Four a week isn't too bad as long as you have other stuff going on. Right now I have a Thursday night RPG session, every-other-Sunday all day, and a Tuesday wargaming night for miniatures fun. Plus the occasional Saturday tournament and/or weekend GT.

I currently am doing two RPG's a week (both 4E D&D) on Sat and Sun and 40k on Sat during the day.

I also work 40+ hours a week, have a fiancee to spend time with (luckily she games!), and have general housekeeping chores to keep up with. I think that it would be impossible for me to add another day (God forbid 2!) days of gaming, however, I have done it in the past.

I think at one point, my weekly schedule was:

D&D: Mon & Fri (after midnight)
Boardgames: Tues & Thur
MtG: Wed & Fri (before D&D)
X-Box Live: Sat & Sun

Of course, I was unemployed and living in my grandparents basement at the time. As much as I loved it, I enjoy my well paying job and future wife much more.

So, I guess to answer your question, no that's not too many gaming days, but I think it's too many RPG days. However, if you are having fun and can manage to still work (if you have a job) and go to school (assuming, again) then more power to you!

Like everyone else, life/gaming balance is the key.

For me it's two days, Tuesday evening (just started a new 4ed D&D - Tiefling Sorcerer) & Sunday evening (I run a World of Darkness RP based in England 2012).

Every two weeks our local gaming club runs a games day on the sunday and I swap out my RP for 40k or blood bowl or whatever happens to be the order of the day.

The wife has first dibs on all my other days
So yeah, as long as you can manage it and you're enjoying them all, more power to ya!

YO DAKKA DAKKA!

I've just started running a Forgotten Realms campaign on Friday nights... including Christmas, which is rudely attempting to interrupt our session... fortunately we're all heathens or something.

It's popping the 4th edition cherry for all of us.
Llordukk the Dwarven Fighter, Hazkal the Dwarven Warlord, Talados the Gnoll Rogue, Eol the Tiefling Cleric of Torm (?), 'Jenny' the Elven Wizard and Reft the Tiefling Warlock are currently circumnavigating the Isle of Prespur in the Sea of Fallen Stars, in a stolen mercenary ship, looking for a place to land that isn't infested with wererats. Hazkal, who was already susceptible to seasickness, has come down with a nasty disease due to a rat bite and is bedridden, which was a pity, because he would have been useful during that unfortunate encounter with a bloodseeker drake and several bloodhawks. Perhaps I'm too hard on my 1st level characters. I dunno.
Llordukk, the fighter, is supposed to be a drunkard, but the actual IRL roleplayer got so drunk in our second session that she tried to attack a tree, genuinely mistaking it for a wererat. She remembered next to nothing of the session the next day, for which I can only award full marks for roleplaying. Llordukk passionately despises the rogue Talados, who always steals his favourite bit of whatever he just killed before he gets to loot it.

Every weekday I roleplay as a cheerful representative of the IT corporation I am sub-sub-contracted to do warranty service for. Good fun
