So I got my 3rd game of 40k a week ago against Dakka's own Troy Tempest..
We played at GW in Glasgow on a very nice table with some awesome looking woodland terrain.
My list
Cassius
10 Tacticals w/MG/ML/PF in rhino
5 Tacticals in Razorback w/Meltabombs
Troy Tempest's list
Shas El w/Plasma rifle, fusion blaster, HWMT and stim injector
10 Fire warriors
2x 10 Kroot + 5 Kroot hounds
Broadside, team leader, drone controller, 2 shield drones
The table had 5 woodland terrain pieces with one in the centre, two in my bottom left quarter, one in the top left and one to the right of the centre. There was a hill in the top right corner
Mission. .. the one that isnt capture and control..
5 objectives. I place two out in the open just above the centre woodland terrain and one in the terrain itself. Dave places one in woodland in my bottom corner and one in the right of centre woodland.
Deployment. I deploy the ML half of the combat squad in the cover thats not an objective in my south-west corner. Chaplain and 5 Tacs go in the razorback as far as they can towards the centre right objective. The PF combat squad deploy in their rhino parallel to the razorback.
Dave deployed his broadside unit on a hill in the North-W and a fire warrior squad in the terrain piece North-E
The kroot infiltrated and were on each side of the board in the 2 woodland objectives
Shas El was deepstriking
Turn 1
Marines
Rhino moves north-w 12" towards the middle left objective being held by the kroot and pops smoke.
Razorback moves 12" north-E towards the other objective being held by the kroot. The marines and Cassius
disembark.
The Missile launcher combat squad fire at the firewarriors but only 1 is killed.
Cassius and Co rapid fire the kroot in the wooded objective and kill 4 causing them to flee 9"
I forget to shoot out of the rhino.
Tau
The fleeing kroot fail to rally and flee another 6 or 7"
The kroot on the left objective move thru the wood towards my ML combat squad.
The broadside targets the rhino but only manages a weapon destroyed.
The kroot rapid fire the ML combat squad and kill a marine
Turn 2
Marines
Cassius and Co jump back in the razorback which moves 12" to the middle of the board near the central right objective.
The rhino moves up 12" towards the firewarriors ignoring the kroot to its left, the marines get out.
The ML combat squad shoot at the kroot bearing down on them but only kill 2
The disembarked combat squad rapid fire the fire warriors but can only kill 1
Tau
The fleeing kroot fail to rally again..
The Tau commander fails to turn up.
The kroot move closer to the ML combat squad and are in assault range
The firewarriors rapidfire the marines from the rhino and kill one.
The broadside misses the razorback.
The kroot assault the ML combat squad and kill a marine, the marines kill a kroot, tied combat.
Turn 3
Cassius disembarks from the razorback and moves 6" towards the broadside
The combat squad marines move 6" towards the firewarriors
The rhino then moves 12" back towards the kroot/Combat squad melee
The razorback and cassius fail to wound the broadside with shooting
The combat squad fire bolt pistols at the fire warriors killing 2 and causing them to flee out of assault range (damn i didnt get to use my shiney new powerfist)
The kroot/ML combat squad fight sees no wounds dealt so again its a tied combat
Tau
The fleeing kroot again fail to rally and leg it off the board.
The fire warriors however do rally
The tau commander shows up right behind my combat squad w/PF
The firewarriors and the tau commander shoot and kill 3 marines. (Including the PF sarge... tut wat a waste of points that was =D)
The broadside then shoots at the surviving Meltagun marine and pulps him.
The kroot eat the remaining marines and consolidate towards my rhino.
Turn 4
Marines
Cassius moves again towards broadside and drones
The razorback moves under 6" and parks on an objective.
I forget to move my rhino.
Cassius flames the broadside and drones to no effect.
The razorback fires at the fire warriors who go to ground, 2 die and they pass leadership.
Cassius assaults the broadside and drones and kills a drone. No wounds are dealt back and the broadside Unit fails its leadership test and is cut down as it flees.
Cassius gets an awesome 6" consolidation roll and move back towards my razorback and the middle objectives.
Tau
The fire warriors get up.
The tau commander turns around and moves right in front of my rhino.
The kroot move back towards the wooded objective they started the game on.
The kroot shoot at the rhino's rear armour and do nothing but the commander shows them how its done and explodes it.
Turn 5
Cassius continues his slog to the middle
The razorback stays where it is but the marines get out and ty to move so that they are holding both middle objectives.
The razorback and the combat squad fire at the firewarriors killing 4. The remaining warrior passes his test (balls of steel ovb)
Cassius runs 3" and is now close to his marine buddies.
Tau
The kroot move towards the middle two objectives while still holding the wooded one in a long conga line
The tau commander moves back to where he first deepstruck near the middle left objective ready to shoot the remaining marines.
The single firewarrior moves closer to the marine held obejectives.
The fire warrior rapidfires and kills a marine ........ he turns to high five his squad mates..... oh snap
The tau commander kills 2 more marines and they pass leadership.
The kroot run 2" and are now holding the wooded objective and contesting the middle left.
we roll for a turn 6 and we get it!!
Marines
Cassius moves into coherancy with his 2 remaining marines.
The razorback stays put.
The razorback kills the remaining firewarrior.
Cassius and co fire pistols at the kroot and kill one.
They then multi charge the tau commander and the kroot.
Kroot hounds kill the bolter marine, Cassius kills three kroot, and the sargent fails to wound the Tau suit commander, the kroot and the commander then kill the sargent.
Marines win combat 3-2 causing the kroot to flee from combat and they cannot rally (under half str) Cassius and the suit commander square up..
Tau
The kroot continue fleeing
The Suit/Cassius combat sees the suit loose a wound but he stands firm against the chaplain..
We roll for turn 7 and we get it!!!
Marines
The kroot continue fleeing
The Suit/Cassius combat sees the Tau commander loose a wound – but he doesn’t flee.
The razorback fires at the fleeing kroot to rub some salt in and kills 2 or 3
Tau
Cassius kills Tau commander.
Result – no objectives held, but space marines annihilate Tau.. space marine victory (KPs SM 5 Tau 4)
So Cassius saves the day again.. its getting to be a common theme in my first low point games. I hope its not too cheasy taking him but to be honest hes the only chance I have at 500 points, sorry there aren't any pics, I promise for the next one I'll hook you awesome folk up.
There were many occassions where TroyT reminded me of things I had forgotten to do with my troops and let me re-do my moves and such, so a big thanks to him for going above and beyond the call of duty. I'm getting alot better thanks to him !
