So I built a Leviathan.

http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/268020.page

And I'm using it at an Apoc battle Saturday (Springfield, VA GW store if you're interested).

Now I need rules.

First we have the Fly Lords rules.

1400 points for:
Doomsday cannon S9, AP2, 10" blast
Battle cannon
6 TL las cannons
8 TL heavy bolters
5 structure points and 4 void shields.

But mine doesn't really match that weapon load.

Plus I thought making the DOOMSDAY! cannon a mere S9 was a bit of a let down.

So i cracked open the old VDR rules and here's what I got:

Armor 14/14/12 = 100 points
Lumbering = 20
5 structure points = 500
5 void shields = 175

For weapons I gave everything BS4 rather than TL since they all have targeters
6 las cannon=210
3 long barrel antiaircraft las cannon (+100%)=210
6 heavy bolter=120
36", Str D, 10" DOOMSDAY cannon (demolisher cannon, long barrel, mega, blast, titan killer +450%)=275 pts
Mega Vanquisher cannon (titan killer, mega +200%)=165 pts
Transports 50 = 50 pts

TOTAL=1825

Since VDR rules have not been updated since 2004 I had to cheat a bit to make the DOOMSDAY! cannon come out the way I wanted. I figured adding Mega and Titan killer to a Str 10 weapon would do the job. The ridiculously short range means it's actually a challenge to use.

I added the 3 Icarus pattern las cannons because I could not imagine fielding a bajillion dollar tank that goes 5mph and not adding some anti-aircraft to it.

I also waived the normal limits on transport (10+5 per structure point) because, well, they're dumb.

Anyway, thoughts? Would you complain about a Heiankyo Pattern Leviathan hitting the table?

I wouldn't mind. VDR is in most cases safely overcosted, so there shouldn't be many complaints. You're paying an extra 400 pts for D strength on the Doomsday and a few lascannon, seems like more than enough.

For that much, you may as well throw in targeters to make it BS4 (or put a Pask equivalent in it to make it even more fun).

Well it ain't the prettiest datafax ever made but...

I have the blank PDF from the GW site but I can't seem to edit it.

If you're wondering how it's up to 1900 points I added double long barrel to the DOOMSDAY! cannon (48" now) and long barrel to the Vanquisher.

I will say I'm not a huge fan of the AA mount Lascannons. Most of the AA weapons I've seen transferred over have been multi-shot weapons, as it just makes sense for spraying at fast-moving flyers.

Perhaps some regular Lascannons, and then some AA-mount Autocannons?

Well I had the lascannons, so that's one reason. But also they add some long-range firepower for taking down void shields and they can penetrate most fliers' armor. And since they have a 270 fire arc they give the player more options.

While I am personally impressed you actually built one, there are some things that I look at and see they are wrong. Now understand this is just merely an opinion and does not mean you did not do a good job building this personally...

One of the things I look at, and compair to the ancient pictures I have buired is the main gun. The barrel you used should have been much much bigger, say big enough to fit an old style Rhino into. The gun was simply that massive.

I see that you used the pre-built towers as your main body which helps eliminate the need to build individual sponsons for the las-cannongs on the side, I think though with some little work and modification, you could get the 180 degree arc those guns should have had as well as twin link them as the original images have.

Last part I saw was the use of the Baneblades. Sorry, that makes me cringe to think of the expense of just those two alone when spending $20 to $30 at a toy store for a large scale GI Joe Tank or some other simular would have done the very same job.

Otherwise, good work all in all for what you did use and utilise in your creation. Just before I saw this I picked up supplies to start building my own Leviathan and have been looking at what others have done in building theirs.

Life, Liberty and the Persuit of all who threaten it.
