I'm not entirely sure if this is the right forum for this, but here goes.
So my Daemonhunter codex says that Grey Knights use storm bolters like lesser warriors use pistols, and thus they gain an extra close combat attack. My question is, how does that work? Aren't Grey Knights' storm bolters built into the armor on their forearm? Then how would they use that as a pistol?

Kill the mutant, burn the heretic, purge the unclean!!!!

There are just three simple rules to follow: If I charge, follow me. If I retreat, kill me. If I die, avenge me.

"A Templar Knight is truly a fearless knight and secure on every side, for his soul is protected by the armor of faith, just as his body is protected by armor of steel. He is thus doubly armed and need fear neither daemons nor men."

The eye of terror.

They are referring to the fact that Grey Knights get a rule called "true grit" where they can gain a bonus attack for having storm bolter/ccw as long as they aren't assaulting.

Why did the berzerker cross the road?

It means they gain the +1 attack for a second weapon the way others get it only for pistols.

They train more and harder with them.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

That is not dead which can eternal lie ...

... and yet, with strange aeons, even death may die.

Yeah, I know that Grey Knights "train more and harder with them", but I was just wondering how they hit anyone in CC with that storm bolter when it's actually practically a part of their armor, not another weapon they are holding in one hand.

consider the stormbolter as a pistol for GK.
for fuffly. well, do they really need an extra close combat weapon to kill? dude they have powered armor. i am pretty sure their armored fist can hit really hard.

please forgive my spelling, i am still learning English.

Ah, I see the confusion here.

Pistols are counted as an extra CCW not because of pistol whips, but because they're light and easy to hold in one hand whilst fighting in close combat. I always assumed that the models used the pistol as another threat (yeah yeah, I know they don't get a CC attack using the pistol's characteristic's, but still).

From the way a GK Storm bolter is mounted, it would be very useful in close combat. Any time the GK's forearm points towards the foe (quite common in hand to hand, especially when wielding weapons like the GK are pictured with), he has the option of shooting. This is another thing the opponent has to watch out for, and gives the GK much more offensive threat (hey, I can kill him while I'm getting ready to swing, while I swing, and while I recover from the swing).

Its arm mounted, man! Every left hook a Grey Knight throws in close combat comes with a bolter volley to some sucker of a Deamon's face!!

This seems like more of a fluff discussion than a rules query, so I'm moving it over the 40K Discussions...

Yea.. i would go with that. Of course.. it could be the fact that grey knights are made of awesome and win. The same thing space marines are made of, just double the dose ;p
