This year we've been busy working away on a brand new edition of Warhammer Ancient Battles and we're pleased to say that it's just about finished! Weighing in at 208 pages, the new edition will be hardback and full colour throughout. The book is lavishly illustrated with fantastic colour photographs and stunning full-colour artwork. All of our existing supplements will be compatible with the new edition so make sure you’ve got the ones you need!
We'll be sending Warhammer Ancient Battles off to the printers in the New Year and when we have a confirmed delivery date, we'll make the book available for pre-order. As newsletter subscribers, we'll send you the information first and you should also keep an eye out for preview pages early in the New Year.
We also wanted to let you know about some of the other projects that we've got in the pipeline including Over the Top (a supplement to The Great War), a brand new World War II game and a 28mm Napoleonic wargame. We'll be giving you more information about each of these projects in due course but rest assured there are plenty more being worked on and there's something for everyone!

The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.

What possessed them to bring back Warhammer Ancients? And expand the offering? Is this game more popular than I think it is?

Warhammer Ancients has never gone away. It is fairly popular, actually.
It appeals to people who don't like the WRG/FoG style of game.
It has a more dramatic flair to it, with an emphasis on special banners, champions and so on. The rules are basically a variant of WHFB about 5.

I am so happy to hear about the 28mm Napoleonics ruleset. The plastic kits at http://www.victrixlimited.com/ has been mading me want to buy and paint them but without a ruleset, I couldn't justify it. Now I can. Thanks for the heads up. -K

The only downside to WHA is that all the flavor has to come from the characters/force rarity because pretty much everyone has the same stat line.

Nappies could be interesting unless they 'herohammer' it all up.

WAB (Warhammer Ancient Battles) works because everyone has the same stat line. The flavor comes from the force rarity, as you mentioned, but also a judicious use of special rules (' USRs' - of which there are a lot in the main rules) to differentiate units, and everyone having a general idea of what a representative historical army looks like, make it work.
In addition, most forces are fairly well balanced within each of the supplements, which is made easier because of the common stat line.
It really is about the troops, with little to no herohammer, unless you're playing Trojan War lists, where its all about the heroes
Ultimately, history itself makes it flavorful, not the rules.

Go ahead and buy them. A rules set is included. I know, crazy idea, right? We had no idea until we opened the box.
Also, we recently tried out Warlord Games's Black Powder rules. And liked them.

it latches on to the first idea to come along, good or bad; and it takes strenuous effort with a crowbar to make it let go.
